Italian Television
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. According to the BBC, the Italian television industry is widely considered both inside and outside the country to be overtly politicized. Vittorio Sindoni
Vittorio Sindoni (born 21 April 1939) is an Italian director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Capo d'Orlando, Sicily, Sindoni started his career on stage directing the theater group "Il Collettivo" ("The Collective") in Rome, and worked for some years as author of several RAI cultural programs. In the late 1960s he entered the film industry as director and screenwriter, directing numerous comedies. He is known to Italian giallo fans for his 1968 film '' Deadly Inheritance''. For his film ''Gli anni struggenti'' he won the Mario Gromo Plate at the 1979 Grolle d'oro Awards. Since the 1980s he devoted himself to television. Mike Bongiorno
Michael Nicholas Salvatore Bongiorno (; May 26, 1924 – September 8, 2009) was an Italian-American television host. After a few experiences in the US, he started working on RAI in the 1950s and was considered to be the most popular host in Italy. He was also known by the nickname ''il Re del Quiz'' ("The Quiz King"), and the peculiarity of starting all his shows with his trademark greeting: ''Allegria!'' ("Cheers!", "Joy!"). Early years Bongiorno was born in New York City to parents of Italian descent. He moved to Turin (his mother's native city), when he was young. His father was a Sicilian-American lawyer of partial Arbëreshë origin. During World War II, he abandoned his studies and joined a group of Italian partisans. He was captured and spent seven months in the San Vittore prison in Milan and was then deported to a German concentration camp. Gian Carlo Fusco (1 July 1915 – 17 September 1984), sometimes spelled Giancarlo Fusco, was an Italian writer, journalist, screenwriter and occasional actor.
