2009 V8 Supercar Challenge
The 2009 V8 Supercar Challenge was the eleventh event of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series. It was held on the weekend of the October 22 to 25 at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit in Queensland. After the cancellation of the A1 Grand Prix event the same weekend, the V8 Supercars became the main event on the program for the Nikon SuperGP carnival. The winner of the event was Mark Winterbottom, winning two of the weekend's four races. Format change The V8 Supercar Challenge consists of the 19th and 20th races of the season. After the collapse of A1 Grand Prix's involvement in the Nikon SuperGP, V8 Supercar expanded its involvement in the event. The original program planned for a 44 lap, race to be held on each of Saturday (Race 19) and Sunday (Race 20). The expanded program saw those two races split into a total of four 34 lap, races, consisting of Races 19a, 19b, 20a and 20b in the 2009 V8 Supercar series. Garry Rogers Motorsport is an Australian motor racing team. It is owned by retired racing driver Garry Rogers who began the team to further his own racing efforts. Based in Melbourne, originally out of a Nissan dealership owned by Rogers, the team has competed in a variety of touring car series in Australia ranging from relatively modest Nissan production cars to Chevrolet NASCARs to building the GT specification Holden Monaro 427C. Lee Holdsworth (born 2 February 1983) is a semi-retired Australian racing driver. He won the 2021 Bathurst 1000 alongside Chaz Mostert and finished his full-time career after the 2022 season, after nearly two decades of racing. Paul Morris Motorsport, also known as its business name of Nemo Racing, is an Australian motor racing team that competed in V8 Supercars between 2000 and 2012. Russell Ingall (born 24 February 1964 in London, England) is a former full-time Australian V8 Supercar driver. He won his V8 Supercars title in 2005, and finished second in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2004. Ingall has also won the Bathurst 1000, in 1995 and 1997. His particular driving style earned him the nickname "Enforcer". Paul Dumbrell (born 1 September 1982) is an Australian business executive and retired racing driver. Racing history Junior career Son of former racing driver Garry Dumbrell, Paul Dumbrell started racing in karts in 1996 and by the end of 1997 Dumbrell was looking to further his racing.
