2009 Speedway World Cup Event 2
The FIM Tobet Speedway World Cup – Event 2 was the second meeting of the 2009 Speedway World Cup tournament. It took place on 13 July 2009 in the East of England Showground in Peterborough, Great Britain. The meeting was won by the Polish team and they qualified directly for the World Cup Final in Leszno, Poland. Australia and host team Great Britain qualified for the Race-Off. The last placed team, Slovenia, were knocked out of the competition. Results As a Teams Declared was two changes. Pole Sebastian Ułamek (who broke a shoulder blade riding in the Swedish Elitserien) was replaced by Krzysztof Kasprzak. Polish manager Marek Cieślak said: ''I watched the Polish Championship semi-final where Krzysztof scored 13 points. He also had a very good performance in the Polish Ekstraliga before that''. Darcy Ward
Darcy Stephen Ward (born 4 May 1992 in Nanango, Queensland) is an Australian former motorcycle speedway rider who won the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Australian Under-21 Championships as well as the 2009 and 2010 World Under-21 Championships. His career was ended by spinal injuries sustained in a crash in 2015. Career history Junior career Darcy Ward started his speedway career as a junior in his native Queensland. He qualified for five Australian Under-16 Championships from 2003–2007, with a best finish of second in 2005 and again in 2007. 2009 In the 2009 season he rode for Unibax Toruń (Poland), King's Lynn Stars (Great Britain). and AC Landshut (Germany). Christopher Robert Holder (born 24 September 1987 in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian speedway rider currently riding for Lejonen in the Swedish Elitserien and for Apator Toruń in the Polish Speedway Ekstraliga. He became the Australian Individual Speedway Champion in 2008 and followed up with wins in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014 (he was runner up in 2009) as well as winning the Australian Under-21 Championship in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Ryan Geoffrey Sullivan (born 20 January 1975, in Fitzroy, Victoria) is a retired Australian international Motorcycle speedway rider who has won the Australian senior, Under-21, and Under-16 championships during his career. Sullivan achieved a career best third in the 2002 Speedway Grand Prix, winning two of the ten Grand Prix run during the year. Jarosław "Jarek" Hampel (; born 17 April 1982 in Łódź, Poland) is a Polish Speedway rider. He was a participant of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix in 2007 and 2010. He received his speedway license in 1998 with the Polish team Polonia Piła, although he first started racing on a mini-track in Pawłowice, close to the city of Leszno. In 2010 and 2013, he won silver medals in the Speedway World Championships ( Grand Prix Series), and in 2011, he won the bronze medal. Piotr Protasiewicz
Piotr Protasiewicz (born 25 January 1975 in Zielona Góra, Poland) is a Polish international speedway rider. Career He has ridden for the Polish national team in the Speedway World Cup in 1996 and 2005. He was also World U-21 Champion in 1996. In October 1997, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 1998 Grand Prix. Tomasz Gollob
Tomasz Robert Gollob (; born 11 April 1971 in Bydgoszcz, Poland) is a former Polish motorcycle speedway rider. He appeared in every Speedway Grand Prix series between its inaugural season in 1995 and 2013. His brother Jacek is also a speedway rider. Career summary Tomasz Gollob spent almost all of his career with hometown club Bydgoszcz until he moved to Unia Tarnów in 2004. He has won the Polish Individual Championship eight times (between 1992 and 2009) and the Polish Pairs Championship ten times. He has also won the Polish Grand Prix eight times in thirteen years. Maks Gregorič (born 26 August 1985) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Slovenia. Career Gregorič was a member of Slovenian national team for who he earned seven international caps and represented them at four World Cups including the 2009 Speedway World Cup semi finals. He rode for the Kolejarz Rawicz in the Polish Second League and started racing in the British leagues during the 2009 Premier League speedway season, when riding for the Redcar Bears and also rode for them during the 2010 season. Aleksander Čonda
Aleksander Čonda (born 26 August 1990) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider. Career Čonda was a member of the Slovenian national team at 2009 Speedway World Cup. He medalled six times at the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship. Although he won 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals he never became champion of Slovenia, being denied the gold medal 3 times by Matej Žagar. Adrian Miedziński (born 20 August 1985 in Toruń, Poland) is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider. Career He has won the Team Under-21 World Champion and Individual Under-21 Polish Champion titles.
