2009 Phoenix Mercury Season
The 2009 WNBA season was the 13th season for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Mercury won the WNBA Finals for the second time in franchise history. On June 6, the Mercury and LifeLock entered a multi-year marketing partnership to launch the first-ever branded jersey in WNBA or NBA history. A press conference was held at the NBA Store in New York City with Phoenix Mercury President and COO Jay Parry and LifeLock CEO Todd Davis to make the announcement. The partnership ran through 2011, and the LifeLock name was on the front of Phoenix Mercury’s player jerseys and on warm-up suits. The Mercury and LifeLock ware the first to finalize such an agreement following the WNBA’s decision this off-season to make this opportunity available for its teams and sponsors. Corey Gaines
Corey Yasuto Gaines (born June 1, 1965) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. He played five seasons in the NBA, and was a four-time Israeli Basketball Premier League Statistical Leaders#Assists leaders, Israeli Premier League Assists Leader, in 1999 and in 2001 to 2003. He was also a former head coach of the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Professional career Gaines was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 3rd round (65th overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft. Atlanta Dream
The Atlanta Dream are an American professional basketball team based in Atlanta, playing in the Eastern Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team was founded for the 2008 WNBA season. The team is owned by real estate investors Larry Gottesdiener, Suzanne Abair and former Dream player Renee Montgomery. Although the Dream share the Atlanta market with the National Basketball Association's Hawks, the Dream is not affiliated with its NBA counterpart. The Dream play at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia. Naketia Marie "Ketia" Swanier (born August 10, 1986) is an American professional basketball player born in Columbus, Georgia. She most recently played the guard position for the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA. College career Swanier was the only freshman to open the season as UConn's starting point guard. She finished her career as the only player in UConn history to rank among the top 10 career leaders in games played, assists and steals. Brooke Smith (born April 30, 1984) is a professional basketball player most recently in the WNBA. High school Born in San Anselmo, California, Smith played for Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California, where she was named a WBCA All-American. She participated in the 2002 WBCA High School All-America Game where she scored eight points. College Smith played her freshman year in college at Duke University in 2002–03. After sitting out a year, she played three years at Stanford and graduated in 2007. Temeka Rochelle Johnson (born September 6, 1982) is a former American professional basketball player. Her primary position was point guard. The Los Angeles Sparks (LA Sparks) are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. Barbara Farris
Barbara Farris, (born September 10, 1976), is a retired basketball player formerly of the WNBA. On May 29, 2009, Farris signed with the Detroit Shock. Farris previously played for the New York Liberty. In the 2007 season she played in 28 regular-season games and all three of the Liberty's playoff appearances. Farris started in 2006, but was relegated to the bench after the Liberty acquired Janel McCarville, Jessica Davenport, and Tiffany Jackson in 2007. Farris graduated from St. Martin's Episcopal School in 1994. She is a member of the St. Martin's Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame. A'Quonesia Krashun Franklin (born September 29, 1985), also known as Aqua, is an American basketball coach and former player. She played two seasons in the WNBA. The Sacramento Monarchs were a basketball team based in Sacramento, California. They played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1997 until folding on November 20, 2009. They played their home games at ARCO Arena. Kelly Miller (born September 6, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. She is the identical twin sister of fellow basketball player Coco Miller.
