2009 Nordic Trophy (Swedish Tournament)
The 2009 Nordic Trophy (Swedish tournament) was the Swedish edition of the 2009 Nordic Trophy ice hockey tournament, played between August 7 and August 29, 2009. The final weekend was played in Mariehamn, Åland Islands, Finland, at the Islandia. This year, the Finnish teams dropped out and formed their own Finnish edition of the 2009 Nordic Trophy. Djurgårdens IF defeated defending champions Linköpings HC in the final with a score of 4–1. Andreas Engqvist, Djurgården became the best player of the tournament while Jacob Josefson, also Djurgården, scored most points. Group stage The group stage matches were played at different small town venues in Sweden. HV71 clinched the first place for the first time since the tournament's inauguration. European Trophy
European Trophy (previously named ''Nordic Trophy'' between 2006 and 2009) was an annually held ice hockey tournament, traditionally composed of teams from the higher-level ice hockey leagues in countries across Europe. With 32 participating teams from seven countries in 2013, the European Trophy was at the time the biggest active ice hockey tournament in Europe. Starting with the 2014–15 season, the European Trophy was replaced by the Champions Hockey League, a more formal competition which also included all of the champions of Europe's major national leagues. Sweden and Finland always participated, and they were the only two countries participating when the tournament was named "Nordic Trophy". The tournament began in 2006 under the name "Nordic Trophy" with eight teams, four from Sweden and four from Finland. Frölunda HC
Frölunda Hockey Club, previously known as the Frölunda Indians, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Gothenburg. They currently play in the highest Swedish league, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), formerly the Elitserien, where they have played for most of the club's existence. They last played in the lower division, the Allsvenskan, in 1995. Frölunda have won the national championship title five times: in 1965, 2003, 2005, 2016 and 2019. The club was founded on 3 February 1938, as an ice hockey section in Västra Frölunda IF and became independent on 29 March 1984. Prior to the 1995/1996 season, the nickname Indians was adopted. Björn Melin
Björn Melin (born July 4, 1981) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey forward, who most notably played with HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Melin played as left winger with jersey number 91. He was an energetic quick power forward who worked hard in every shift. Melin started his hockey career with HC Dalen and has played six of his first seven professional seasons with HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien. Melin was drafted in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders with their 6th round pick, in the 163rd overall selection. Melin chose not to renew his contract with his last club HV71 in Sweden after the season 2005–06. On May 31, 2006, he signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL. Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. The IF Malmö Redhawks (colloquially referred to simply as Malmö or by past abbreviation MIF) is a Swedish professional ice hockey team based in Malmö which plays in the SHL, with Malmö Arena as the venue for home games.
