2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge Season
The 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the fourth season of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The season consists of twelve rounds and began on January 21, with the 77° Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo. The season ended on November 21, at the inaugural RAC Rally of Scotland. With four wins, Kris Meeke won the championship ahead of Jan Kopecký and Freddy Loix. Calendar The calendar had been increased from 10 events in 2008, to twelve in 2009. Out went the Istanbul Rally, the Rally de Portugal, the Rallye International du Valais and the China Rally. Giandomenico Basso (born 15 September 1973, in Montebelluna) is an Italian rally driver. Rally career After competing in karting from 1981, Basso has been rallying since 1994. Basso has driven Fiats throughout his rallying career. He made his World Rally Championship debut on Rallye Sanremo in 1998, in a Fiat Seicento. In 2001 and 2002 he competed on WRC rounds in the Junior World Rally Championship in a Fiat Punto S1600, finishing fifth in 2001 and fourth in 2002. In 2006 Basso won the inaugural Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the European Rally Championship in a Fiat Grande Punto S2000 for Abarth. In 2007 he won the Italian Rally Championship. The Monte Carlo Rally or Rallye Monte-Carlo (officially ''Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo'') is a rallying event organised each year by the Automobile Club de Monaco. Olivier Burri (born 4 September 1963 in Hazebrouck, France) is a rally driver who has competed in the World Rally Championship on various occasions since 1991, almost exclusively at the Monte Carlo Rally. Biography Career in Rally Burri's professional rallying début was at the 1991 Monte Carlo Rally driving a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. 1991 also saw his début in the European Rally Championship which he has had modest success in. He has entered in eighteen ERC rounds, winning six of them.
