2009 Insight Bowl
The 2009 Insight Bowl was the 21st edition of the college football bowl game, played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The game matched the Iowa State Cyclones against the Minnesota Golden Gophers and kicked off at 6:00 PM US EST on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Jack Trice
John G. Trice (May 12, 1902 – October 8, 1923) was a football player who became the first African-American athlete for Iowa State College. Trice died due to injuries suffered during a college football game against the University of Minnesota on October 6, 1923. He is the namesake for Jack Trice Stadium, Iowa State's football stadium. Background Trice was born in Hiram, Ohio, in 1902, the son of a former Buffalo Soldier, Green Trice. As a child, Trice was active in sports and demonstrated outstanding athletic skills. In 1918, Trice's mother sent him to Cleveland, Ohio, to live with an uncle. Trice attended East Technical High School, where he played football. In 1922, Trice followed five of his teammates, as well as his former high school coach, Sam Willaman, to Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Texas Bowl
The Texas Bowl is an annual postseason NCAA-sanctioned Division I FBS college football bowl game first held in 2006 in Houston, Texas. Each edition of the bowl has been played at NRG Stadium, previously known as Reliant Stadium. The bowl replaced the defunct Houston Bowl, which was played annually from 2000 to 2005, and before that the Bluebonnet Bowl, the first bowl game in Houston, played from 1959 through 1987. 2005 TCU Horned Frogs Football Team
The 2005 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University in the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. TCU finished with an 11–1 (8–0 Mountain West Conference) record and a #11 ranking in the AP Poll. The team was coached by Gary Patterson and played their home games at Amon G. The 2000 Insight.com Bowl was the 12th edition of the bowl game. It featured the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Iowa State Cyclones. Pitt scored first on a 72-yard touchdown pass from John Turman to Antonio Bryant, taking an early 7–0 lead. The 2006 Insight Bowl, a college football bowl game held on December 29 at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, pitted the Texas Tech Red Raiders against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
