The 2009 French Open Super Series was a top level badminton competition which was held from October 27, 2009, to November 1, 2009, in Paris, France. It was the tenth BWF Super Series competition on the 2009 BWF Super Series schedule. The total purse for the event was $200,000. French Open (badminton)
The French Open (french: Internationaux de France de Badminton) is an annual badminton tournament held in France since 1909 and hosted by the Fédération Française de Badminton (FFBad). The tournament was halted between 1915 and 1934, in 1965, 1970, 1972, 1994 and 2006. Not previously considered one of the international badminton circuit's leading events, it was promoted to become part of the BWF Super Series in 2007 making the French Open one of the 12 major badminton tournaments in the world. Wang Yihan
Wang Yihan (born 18 January 1988) is a retired Chinese professional badminton player and former women's singles world champion and Olympic silver medalist. Wang started her career with her coach Wang Pengren at only nine years of age. She was selected for the junior team in 2004, and after being promoted to the senior team in 2006 she began to shine in major tournaments. By October 2009 she was the top ranked Women's singles player in the world. Career 2004–2006 Wang was the bronze medallist at the 2004 Asian Junior Championships. She was also a quarterfinalist in the same year's World Junior Championships where she lost to Korean Ha Jung-eun. Mathias Boe
Mathias Boe (born 11 July 1980) is a badminton player from Denmark. He was the gold medalist at the 2015 European Games, two time European champions winning in 2012 and 2017, and the silver medalist at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He joined the Denmark winning team at the 2016 Thomas Cup in Kunshan, China. Career He won the silver medal at the 2006 European Championships in men's doubles with Carsten Mogensen. In 2010, Mogensen and Boe won the titles at the Denmark and French Opens and also the Superseries Final held in Taipei. One year later Mogensen and Boe won the All England Open. With Mogensen, he won the silver medal in the men's doubles at the 2012 Olympics. Tan Boon Heong
Tan Boon Heong (, born 18 September 1987) is a former World No.1 Malaysian professional badminton player in the men's doubles event. Career 2004-2006 Tan was previously paired with Hoon Thien How, with whom he won the World Junior Championships in 2004 and a silver medal at the 2006 Asian Badminton Championships. 2006 Nearing the Doha Asian Games in 2006, Rexy Mainaky (the Malaysian doubles coach) decided to split them up and partner Tan Boon Heong with Koo Kien Keat instead. Koo Kien Keat
Koo Kien Keat (; born 18 September 1985) is a Malaysian former professional badminton player. He succeeded in both men's and mixed doubles but is best known for his partnership with Tan Boon Heong with whom, he reached a career high ranking of world number 1. Career In 2004, he played in the Thomas Cup with Chew Choon Eng. They gave a strong performance during the second doubles match against Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian of Indonesia in the quarter finals. However, after the tournament, the Badminton Association of Malaysia decided to partner him with Chan Chong Ming who previously partnered Choon Eng. Later, they won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships. In 2006, Koo's coach, Rexy Mainaky, decided to paired him with the hard-hitting left-hander Tan Boon Heong. Hendra Setiawan
Hendra Setiawan (born 25 August 1984) is an Indonesian badminton player. He is an Olympic Games gold medalist, four-time World Champion, two-time Asian Games gold medalist, and two-time All England champion. With these achievements, Setiawan has collected all major individual titles in badminton. He is considered to be one of the greatest men's doubles players in badminton history. Setiawan was ranked first in the men's doubles with two different partners. Together with Markis Kido, he achieved the world no. 1 in September 2007, and with Mohammad Ahsan in November 2013. Markis Kido
Markis Kido (11 August 1984 – 14 June 2021) was an Indonesian badminton player and one of the world's leading in men's doubles discipline. He won the discipline's gold medal at the 2006 World Cup, 2007 World Championships, 2008 Olympic Games, 2009 Asia Championships, and 2010 Asian Games with Hendra Setiawan. Career In 2005, with Hendra Setiawan, he won the Asian Badminton Championships and the Indonesia Open. Olga Konon
Olga Anatolyevna Konon ( be, Вольга Анатольеўна Конан; rus, Ольга Анатольевна Конон; born 11 November 1989) is a badminton player from Germany, and is of Belarusian origin. Career Konon is known for her speed and attacking style of play. She is currently coached by Kim Ji Hyun and Per Henrik Croona. Konon won her first major international tournament in 2004, at the Finnish International in the mixed event. She was only 14 at the time. Yao Jie
Yao Jie (; born 10 April 1977) is a Chinese-born badminton player who now resides in the Netherlands. Yao is one of a number of badminton players who have emigrated from China, in part, because the depth of badminton talent in that country has made it difficult for them to be selected for major international competitions. Prior to her move to the Netherlands, she won the BWF World Junior Championships in girls' doubles with Liu Lu in 1994 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and helps the Chinese national women's team clinched a gold medal at the 1997 East Asian Games. Adrianti Firdasari (born 16 December 1986) is a retired Indonesian badminton player from Jaya Raya Jakarta club. Career In 2005, Firdasari won the women's singles at the New Zealand Open. Firdasari played the 2007 BWF World Championships in women's singles, and was defeated in the second round by Xu Huaiwen of Germany, 21–17, 22–20. Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal (; born 17 March 1990) is an Indian professional badminton player. A former world no. 1, she has won 24 international titles, which includes ten Superseries titles. Although she reached the world's 2nd in 2009, it was only in 2015 that she was able to attain the world no. 1 ranking, thereby becoming the only female player from India and overall the second Indian player – after Prakash Padukone – to achieve this feat. She has represented India three times in the Olympics, winning a bronze medal in her second appearance at London 2012. Nehwal has achieved several milestones in badminton for India. Lu Lan (born 2 May 1987) is a badminton player from China. Career In 2004, she won the Polish Open. In 2006, she won the Korea Open and finished the year in the 5th position in the BWF World Ranking. In 2007, she won the Denmark Super Series, and was a bronze medalist at the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, losing to the eventual champion Zhu Lin in the semifinals.
