2009 FINA Women's Water Polo World League
The 2009 FINA Women's Water Polo World League was the 6th edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the International Swimming Federation (FINA). After playing in groups within the same continent, eight teams qualified to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final in Kirishi, Russia from 9 to 14 June 2009. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on. Kelly Rulon
Kelly Kristen Rulon (born August 16, 1984 in Point Loma, California) is an American water polo player. She won a gold medal with the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the water polo competition. She is also a bronze medalist from the 2004 Summer Olympics. Her position is driver. Rulon is a two-time medalist (one gold and silver) at the World Championships. High school and college At University of San Diego High School, Kelly Rulon was a four-time first-team all-league, all-city and All-California Interscholastic Federation selection, as well as Most Valuable Player of her team each year she played. As a freshman in 2003, Rulon was second on the UCLA Bruins with 27 goals, 26 assists and 27 steals, and scored once in the Bruins' 4-3 victory over Stanford University in the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship; she finished with six post-season goals.
