2009 Baltimore Orioles Season
The Baltimore Orioles' 2009 season was the 109th season in franchise history. The Orioles finished the season last in the AL East with a record of 64–98. It was the fifth consecutive season in which the Orioles had fewer wins than in previous year. The Orioles missed the playoffs for the twelfth straight season, tying a record set between 1984 and 1995 New uniforms The Orioles debuted new uniforms at the Harborplace Gallery shopping center on November 12, 2008. The team's new uniforms featured an updated, ornithologically correct oriole bird on their caps on a black crown with orange bill, a new patch incorporating the flag of the state of Maryland in a circle borrowed from their vintage 1960s and 1970s insignia, and the return of the city name (Baltimore) on the road uniforms for the first time since 1972. The American League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. MLB consists of an East, Central, and West division for each of its two 15-team leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (NL). This division was created before the start of the season along with the American League West division. Before that time, each league consisted of 10 teams without any divisions. Jason Thomas Berken (born November 27, 1983) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. College Berken graduated from West De Pere High School. He played college baseball for the Clemson Tigers. While at Clemson, he played for the New England Collegiate Baseball League's Keene Swamp Bats. In 186 innings with Clemson, Berken pitched to an 18–6 record, 3.04 ERA, and 156 strikeouts. Olise Cla Meredith III (; born June 4, 1983), nicknamed "The Claw," is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher. He played for the Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and Baltimore Orioles. Collegiate career Meredith attended Virginia Commonwealth University and played on their baseball team. Meredith was used almost exclusively as a reliever. Robert Glenn McCrory (born May 3, 1982) is a former baseball relief pitcher. He played for the Baltimore Orioles. Career Baltimore Orioles McCrory was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round (337th overall) in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. However, he did not sign with the Astros, choosing instead to play college ball at the University of Southern Mississippi. He had a superb senior season in 2003, making 15 starts in 18 games and had a 10–3 record with a 3.84 ERA. Brian Robert Matusz ( ; born February 11, 1987) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs.
