2009 Americas Rugby Championship
The 2009 Americas Rugby Championship season was the inaugural season of the Americas Rugby Championship. The season featured a Canadian division with four teams representing provinces or regions of Canada, along with international A sides from the U.S. and Argentina. The Canadian Division played a round robin schedule to determine what two teams would play in the Canadian final. The BC Bears went undefeated in round robin play and defeated the Ontario Blues 12–8 in the Canadian final. The international finalist was decided in a match between the U.S. Select XV and the Argentina Jaguars. The match was won by the Jaguars 57–10. The ARC Final pitted the BC Bears against the Argentina Jaguars. The Jaguars gave the Bears their only loss of the season in a 35–11 decision. The Ontario Blues defeated the U.S. Selects to take 3rd place. Americas Rugby Championship
The Americas Rugby Championship, often informally called the Americas' Six Nations, was an annual international rugby tournament between six North and South American nations: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States and Uruguay. Originally competed by various interlocking combinations of club, second-tier national and top national sides, the current (since 2016) international tournament has the top national sides competing (though Argentina, to date, sends its second-tier team). The current format provides these top national teams with additional test matches to be counted in the World Rugby Rankings. Nathan Hirayama (born 23 March 1988) is a Canadian former rugby player. His primary position was fly-half, however, but he also played fullback. He played for both the Canadian national team and the Canadian sevens team. At club level, Hirayama played for the University of Victoria in the British Columbian Premiership and the BC Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship.
