2009 AFL Under 18 Championships
The 2009 AFL Under-18 Championships was the 2009 series of the AFL Under 18 Championships, a state and territory-based Australian rules football competition which showcases the best junior footballers in Australia, primarily with the aim for them to be drafted into the Australian Football League. This year's competition was played with just one division compared to two from previous years. The competing teams will be Victoria (split into separate Country and Metropolitan teams), South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, a combined New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory team, Tasmania and Queensland. David Swallow
David Swallow (born 19 November 1992) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). Swallow won the Gold Coast Suns Club Champion award in 2014, becoming the second player to win the award after Gary Ablett Jr. won the award in the club's first three seasons, and served as Gold Coast co-captain from 2019 to 2021. He received a nomination for the 2011 AFL Rising Star award in round 14 of the 2011 season. Early life Swallow was born in Perth, Western Australia to a Dutch mother and an English father. His older brother, Andrew, is a former captain of the North Melbourne Football Club and a dual Syd Barker Medallist. Docklands Stadium
Docklands Stadium, also currently known by naming rights sponsorship as Marvel Stadium, is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment stadium in the Docklands area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Construction started in October 1997 and was completed in 2000 at a cost of A$460 million. The stadium features a retractable roof and the ground level seating can be converted from oval to rectangular configuration. Josh Toy
Josh Toy (born 18 April 1992) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Gold Coast Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was one of Gold Coast's underage recruits, and played in their first season. Toy was a part of Gold Coast's inaugural team in round 2, against , where he was utilized as a substitute player. Brad Sheppard
Bradley Sheppard (born 23 May 1991) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was selected seventh overall in the 2009 AFL Draft#2009 National Draft, 2009 National Draft. Early career Sheppard was born Perth, Western Australia and attended Wesley College, Perth, Wesley College. Blayne Wilson
Blayne Wilson (born 26 January 1992) is an Australian rules footballer who previously played with the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). From Mandurah, Western Australia, he represented his state at the 2009 National Under-18 Championships, and was selected as full-back in that year's under-18 All-Australian team. In the West Australian Football League, Wilson made his senior debut for during the 2009 season, playing four games, and went on to play another seven games during the 2010 season, but was hampered by osteitis pubis and ankle injuries, missing several games. In part due to these injury concerns, he was overlooked in the 2010 National draft (held in November 2010), despite having been considered likely to be drafted in the early rounds. Francis Jackson (footballer)
Francis Jackson (born 24 August 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond Football Club, Richmond and Sydney Swans, South Melbourne/Sydney in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). A defender, Jackson came to Richmond from Victorian Amateur Football Association club Power House. He made six appearances for Richmond, over two seasons, then got traded to South Melbourne, along with Graham Teasdale and Brian Roberts (Australian rules footballer), Brian Roberts (for John Pitura). His best season came in 1981 when he earned 11 Brownlow Medal votes. The club relocated to Sydney the following season but Jackson didn't make a single appearance that year, due to a knee injury. Matt Rendell
Matthew Rendell (18 April 1959 – 28 June 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League and South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Rendell played as a ruckman and made his debut with the West Torrens Football Club in the SANFL in 1977 where he played 79 games. He left South Australia in 1981 to play with the Fitzroy Football Club in the VFL, wearing the No. 9 guernsey. In his first year, he played mainly at full forward and kicked forty-five goals, but he admitted in later years he did not enjoy it. With the return of Ron Alexander to Western Australia, however, Rendell was to make the ruck position his own, barring injuries, until 1987. Rendell did have quite a number of injuries, however, after 1983, with the result that he played only 26 of 43 games in 1984 and 1985. Jason McCartney (born 14 March 1974) is a former Australian rules footballer, 2002 Bali bombing survivor, former coach of the AIS/AFL Academy, and former list manager at the Western Bulldogs. McCartney is currently the list manager at the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
