2008–09 Snooker Season
The 2008–09 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 4 June 2008 and 10 May 2009. Four players missed the fourth ranking event of the season, the Bahrain Championship, and therefore lost ranking points; this was due to a clash with some Premier League matches whose date had already been approved by the game's governing body. Shaun Murphy
Shaun Peter Murphy (born 10 August 1982) is an English professional snooker player who won the 2005 World Snooker Championship, 2005 World Championship. Nicknamed "The Magician", Murphy is noted for his straight Cue stick, cue action and his long potting. Born in Harlow, Essex and raised in Irthlingborough, North Northamptonshire, Murphy turned professional in 1998. Stefan Mazrocis
Stefan Mazrocis (born 18 April 1967) is a Dutch-English former professional snooker player. He was born of Latvian and English parentage, and spent his early life in Leicester, England. Career Mazrocis turned professional in 1991. In 1995, he qualified for the main stages of the World Championship at the Crucible Theatre, defeating Lee Walters, Martin Dziewialtowski, Jason Prince, Scott MacFarlane and Mark Bennett; drawn against incumbent champion Stephen Hendry in the last 32, he lost 3–10. He was a quarter-finalist at the 1996 Asian Classic. In 1997, he qualified for the main stages of the World Championship, defeating Scott Rigg, Jason Wallace, Karl Payne, Jason Weston and Chris Small in qualifying, and was drawn to play Peter Ebdon in the first round. Declan Hughes (snooker Player)
Declan Hughes (born 27 April 1973) is a former professional snooker player from Northern Ireland. Career He played on the main tour for the 2008–09 season; he qualified by topping the Northern Ireland amateur rankings. Robert Stephen
Robert Stephen (born 27 June 1984) is a Scottish former professional snooker player. He first qualified for the main tour for the 2006–07 season having topped the Scottish rankings the year before. During the 2008–09 season, he reached the last 64 at the Shanghai Masters and the Bahrain Championship. Career Stephen was born in Glasgow and first played competitive snooker in 2003, entering three Challenge Tour events and qualifying for the World Championship; he progressed to the last 32 at one tournament, where Chris Norbury beat him 5–0, but lost his opening World Championship match 3–5 to Troy Shaw. Having gained a place on the professional tour through the Scottish rankings, Stephen made his début in the 2006 Northern Ireland Trophy, where he lost 0–5 to Liang Wenbo. Andrew Pagett
Andrew Pagett (born 25 April 1982) is a Welsh professional snooker player. Career Early career He played on Challenge Tour from 2003 to 2005, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2008–09, but lost his place after just one season. He regained his place for the 2010–11 season by topping the Welsh rankings. Andy Lee (born 27 November 1980), also known as Lee Chun Wai, is an English and Hong Kong professional snooker player. Career He qualified for the main tour for the 2008–09 season by beating Adam Duffy 6–3 in the 2008 English Pro Ticket Tour Play-offs. In his début season, he reached the last 64 of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix, beating Lewis Roberts 5–2 and Barry Pinches 5–4 before losing 2–5 to Jimmy Michie; in the China Open, Lee beat Matthew Selt and Paul Davies before losing at the same stage to Gerard Greene. Wayne Cooper (snooker Player)
Wayne Cooper (born 9 June 1978, in Bradford) is an English former professional snooker player. He first qualified for the main tour in 2001, and was a professional until Summer 2002. Cooper regained his place on the 2008/09 pro tour by finishing top of the EASB Pro Ticket Tour rankings. He won three matches during that season: in the Northern Ireland Trophy, in the Welsh Open and in the World Snooker Championship. Li Hang (, born 4 October 1990) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He made his debut on the Main Tour for the 2008–09 season. He reached his first final in a professional event in 2012 at the Asian Players Tour Championship Event 3, where he lost 3–4 to Stuart Bingham. The ACBS Asian Under-21 Snooker Championship is the premier non-professional junior snooker tournament in Asia. The event series is sanctioned by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports and started from 1993. Jin Long (snooker Player)
Jin Long (; born 23 May 1981) is a Chinese former professional snooker player. He is nicknamed "Golden Dragon", which is a translation of his given name. Career He became professional in 2001 following his strong runs to the finals of the Asian and Chinese Championships. His first Main Tour stints were rather unsuccessful, with the best result a last 48 appearance at the 2004 Grand Prix.
