2008–09 Tour De Ski
The 2008–09 Tour de Ski was the third edition of the Tour de Ski and took place from 27 December 2008 until 4 January 2009. The race kicked off in Oberhof, Germany, and concluded with the Final Climb stage in Val di Fiemme, Italy. The tour was the first tour starting in Oberhof and the second starting in Germany. The men's event was 102 km, won by Dario Cologna of Switzerland; and the women's event was 60 km, won by Virpi Kuitunen of Finland. 2008–09 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 2008–09 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was a multi-race tournament over the season for cross-country skiers. It was the 28th official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began on 22 November 2008 with 15 km freestyle races for women in Gällivare, won by Charlotte Kalla of Sweden. Pietro Piller Cottrer
Pietro Piller Cottrer (born 20 December 1974) is an Italian former cross-country skier who won gold medal in the 4 ×10 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. He was born at Sappada in the province of Udine. Career Piller Cottrer's first relevant success in the cross-country skiing world cup came in 1997, when he won the 50 km race at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. In the same year he won the bronze medal with the Italian relay at the 1997 World Championships in Trondheim. Thanks to Piller Cottrer's presence, the Italian relay confirmed as one of the best in the world winning silver medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics and, better, to gold medal in the home Olympics of Turin. Vasily Vasilyevich Rochev (russian: Василий Васильевич Рочев; born 23 October 1980 in Syktyvkar, Komi ASSR, Russian SFSR) is a Russian cross-country skier who has competed since 2000. He won the bronze medal in the Team sprint event at the 2006 Winter Olympics at Turin. Rochev has four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a gold (Individual sprint: 2005), two silvers (Team sprint and 4x10 km: both 2007), and one bronze (4x10 km: 2005). Giorgio Di Centa (born 7 October 1972 in Tolmezzo, Province of Udine) is an Italian former cross-country skier who won two gold medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics, including the individual 50 km freestyle race. He is the younger brother of Olympic gold medalist, cross-country skier Manuela Di Centa. Biography Di Centa began cross-county skiing very early in a family in which his elder brother Andrea was also a professional skier. At the age of 16 he became a member of Italy's junior team while also skiing for the Carabinieri sport team. He became a member of Italy's senior team in 1995. Therese Johaug
Therese Johaug (born 25 June 1988) is a Norwegian cross-country skier from the village of Dalsbygda in Os municipality who has competed for the clubs Tynset IF and IL Nansen. In World Ski Championships she has won ten individual gold medals along with four gold medals in relays and she is a four-time Olympic gold medallist. In October 2016, Johaug tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug clostebol. She blamed the Norwegian team medic Fredrik S. Bendiksen but was nonetheless suspended for a period of 18 months. She returned to the World Cup in 2019 and has continued to dominate women's distance competitions in the following seasons.
