2008–09 Toto Cup Al
The 2008–09 Toto Cup Al was the twenty-seventh season of the third most important football tournament in Israel since its introduction and fifth under the current format. It was held in two stages. First, twelve Premier League teams were divided into three groups. The winners and runners-up, as well as two best third placed teams from each group, advanced to the Quarterfinals. Quarterfinals and Semifinals were held as two-legged matches, while the Final was one-legged match held at Ramat Gan Stadium. The defending champions were Maccabi Haifa. Maccabi Tel Aviv won the 2008–09 Toto Cup Al making it their third Toto Cup title overall. Group stage The matches were played from August 8 to November 12, 2008. Toto Cup
The Israel Toto Cup ( he, גביע הטוטו, ''Gvia Ha'Toto'') is an association football tournament that features clubs in the two highest divisions in Israel: the Israeli Premier League ( Ligat Ha'Al), and the second division Liga Leumit. From 1999 to 2009, the tournament was also open to clubs from the third division, until the cancellation of Liga Artzit. The Toto Cup is the third most important competition in Israeli football after the Israeli Premier League and the Israeli State Cup. As it isn't highly regarded, Israeli clubs use the games to rotate their squad and give fringe players and youth players a chance. However, the Israeli Sports Betting Council pays 1.25 million NIS to the winner, while the runner-up receives 950,000 NIS. David Revivo
David Revivo ( he, דוד רביבו; born 5 December 1977) is an Israeli footballer who plays for Ramat Hen. He is the second-greatest goal-assist provider in Israel's history with 104 assists in the Israeli Premier League. Career The younger brother of Haim Revivo, he too was recognized early in his youth for having a great footballing potential and joined the youth system of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Later he transferred to his hometown of Ashdod. After six seasons in Ashdod, Revivo finished his contract and went on trial at Los Angeles Galaxy in the American Major League. According to media reports in Israel, Revivo impressed manager Steve Sampson but was not offered a contract because Sampson was sacked shortly after Revivo had returned to Israel. Idan Shriki ( he, עידן שריקי, born November 30, 1981) is a retired Israeli footballer. Career Club He made his Ashdod debut in the 2003–04 season against Maccabi Netanya after returning from a one-season loan to Maccabi Yavne where he scored a league leading 25 goals. It wasn't until the 2006–07 season that Shriki received considerable playing time and he returned the favor to manager Alon Hazan by scoring eleven goals and adding three assists. Ramat Gan ( he, רָמַת גַּן or , ) is a city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel, located east of the municipality of Tel Aviv and part of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground.
