2008–09 Shrewsbury Town F.C. Season
The 2008–09 season was the 109th season of competitive association football and 58th season in the Football League played by Shrewsbury Town Football Club, a professional football club based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. Their eighteenth-place finish in 2007–08 meant it was their fifth consecutive season League Two. The season began on 1 July 2008 and concluded on 30 June 2009. Paul Simpson, starting his first full season as Shrewsbury Town manager, made six permanent summer signings. They finished seventh in the table, and after beating Bury in the play-off semi-final, they lost 1–0 to Gillingham in the final at Wembley Stadium. Paul Simpson (footballer)
Paul David Simpson (born 26 July 1966) is an English former professional footballer who is currently manager of Carlisle United. He has been a coach and manager at several English clubs and was manager of the England team that won the FIFA Under-20s World Cup in South Korea in 2017. Playing career Manchester City Simpson began his playing career as a schoolboy at Manchester City in the early 1980s. He made his senior debut aged 16, on 2 October 1982 in a 3–2 win against Coventry City. However, after the club were relegated and new manager Billy McNeill arrived, Simpson, along with John Beresford, was briefly loaned out to Irish club Finn Harps to gain more experience. Simon Yeo
Simon John Yeo (born 10 October 1973 in Stockport, England) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward from 1997 to 2011 and is currently striker-coach at Mossley. Yeo a former member of the British Army is most well known for his time at Lincoln City, where he spent two spells with the club between 2002 and 2006. Yeo was part of the side managed by Keith Alexander that were defeated in the League Two play-off final several times. Before his spells at Sincil Bank Yeo had played in Northern Ireland for Ards and Coleraine at non-league level for Curzon Ashton, Hyde United and Atherton Collieries. Richard Walker (footballer, Born 1980)
Richard Stuart Walker (born 17 September 1980) is an English football coach and former player who is the lead professional development phase coach at club Wolverhampton Wanderers. A defender with an eleven-year professional career, he played 185 competitive games, including 158 appearances in the English Football League. Walker spent most of his career with Crewe Alexandra, and played over 100 games for the club between 1999 and 2006. During this time he also played on loan for non-League clubs Northwich Victoria and Halesowen Town. He was promoted out of the Second Division with Crewe in 2002–03. He joined Port Vale in 2006, and was loaned out to Wrexham in 2007. In 2008, he signed with Macclesfield Town, before transferring to non-League Hednesford Town the following year. Sean Hessey
Sean Peter Hessey (born 19 September 1978 in Whiston, Merseyside) is an English football manager and former professional footballer who played as a defender. Career During a career which spanned eighteen years, Hessey played for Liverpool, Leeds United, Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town, Kilmarnock, Blackpool, Chester City, Macclesfield Town and Barrow. Hessey had a fairly successful five-year spell at Scottish club Kilmarnock. David Hibbert
David John Hibbert (born 28 January 1986) is an English former footballer who played as a striker; he is now working as a coach at Stoke City. Starting his professional career with Port Vale in 2004, the following year he was signed in controversial fashion by Preston North End – who eventually paid Vale £45,000 for his services. Following loans out to Rotherham United and Bradford City, he transferred to Shrewsbury Town in 2007 for £75,000. He managed to become a key first team player for the "Shrews", before leaving them for Peterborough United in 2010. He did not play a competitive game after picking up a serious injury in November 2010, and announced his retirement from football in April 2013. Graham Coughlan
Graham Coughlan (born 18 November 1974) is an Irish professional football manager and former player who played as a centre back. He is currently manager of EFL League Two club Newport County. Coughlan began his career in his native Ireland with Bray Wanderers, before being signed by Blackburn Rovers. He joined Livingston in 1999 and his performances for the Scottish club led to a transfer to Plymouth Argyle two years later. Shane Lewis Cansdell-Sherriff (born 10 November 1982), also known simply as Shane Sherriff, is an Australian professional footballer. Traditionally a left or central defender, Sherriff has also been deployed on the left side of midfield. He is currently coaching at Australian football club Bankstown City.
