2008–09 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2008–2009 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I competition as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Terrapins qualified for the NCAA tournament for just the second time since the 2003–04 season. Maryland advanced to the second round before being eliminated by second-seeded Memphis. This exceeded expectations for the team, which had been described as a team that was small in stature without any highly touted athletes. Gary Williams
Gary Bruce Williams (born March 4, 1945) is an American university administrator and former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Maryland, the Ohio State University, Boston College, and American University. In 2002, he led Maryland to win the NCAA tournament championship. Williams retired after the 2010–11 season, and is now a college basketball analyst for the Big Ten Network. Playing career Williams played for Maryland as the starting point guard under coach Bud Millikan. He was a member of the 1966 Charlotte Invitational Tournament championship team and the 1965 Sugar Bowl Tournament championship team. Sean Mosley
Sean Mosley (born March 19, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. High School career While in high school Sean was named Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun at St. Frances Academy. Sean was also named the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year in Maryland where he finished his career as the second-leading scorer in Maryland high school basketball with 2,933 points. Landon Milbourne
Landon Milbourne (born June 29, 1987) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Maccabi Ashdod of the Israeli Premier League. He played college basketball at the University of Maryland before playing professionally in France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Puerto Rico and Israel. The California Golden Bears are the athletic teams that represent the University of California, Berkeley. In basketball, a double-double is a single-game performance in which a player accumulates ten or more in two of the following five statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. Overtime (sports)
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. In others, play continues until a specified time has elapsed, and only then is the winner declared.
