2008–09 Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball Team
The 2008–09 Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team represents Iowa State University during the 2008–09 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cyclones were coached by Greg McDermott, who was in his 3rd season. They played their home games at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa and competed in the Big 12 Conference. Previous season The Cyclones finished 14-18, 4-12 in Big 12 play to finish 11th the regular season conference standings. They lost to Texas A&M in the first round of the Big 12 tournament. Greg McDermott
Greg McDermott (born November 25, 1964) is an American basketball coach who has been the head coach of the Creighton Bluejays men's basketball team since 2010. Previously, McDermott served as the head coach at Wayne State College, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and Iowa State. He is the father of NBA player Doug McDermott. Early life McDermott grew up in Cascade, Iowa, and played basketball for Cascade High School. A 6'8" center, he then played college basketball for the Northern Iowa Panthers from 1984 to 1988. In 1988, he earned a B.A. degree from Northern Iowa. He is the father of current NBA player Doug McDermott. Scott Christopherson
Scott Christopherson (born May 17, 1989) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Iowa State Cyclones. Christopherson played professionally in Belarus, Australia and Switzerland. High school career Christopherson began his high school career at Melrose-Mindoro High School for his first two years but came to prominence at Aquinas High School, where he was named Wisconsin Mr. Basketball during his senior season. Lone Peak High School
Lone Peak High School (LPHS) is a public high school in Highland, Utah, United States. Part of the Alpine School District, in northern Utah County, it was built in 1997 to serve students in the cities of Alpine, Highland, and Cedar Hills. Lone Peak High School was given athletic 5A status beginning at the 2005-2006 school year. However, it has since been given a 6A status. The school mascot is a knight. Alpine is a city on the northeastern edge of Utah County, Utah. The population was 10,251 at the time of the 2020 census. Justin Anthony Hamilton (born April 1, 1990) is a Croatian-American professional basketball player for Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He plays the center position. College career Hamilton played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones from 2008 to 2010 under Greg McDermott, and Louisiana State University during the 2011–12 season under Trent Johnson after being required to redshirt the 2010–11 season due to NCAA transfer requirements. Jamie Russell Vanderbeken (born August 23, 1987) is a British-Canadian professional basketball player for the Saint John Riptide of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He played college basketball for Tyler Junior College and Iowa State. High school career Vanderbeken attended Quinte Secondary School in Belleville, Ontario. He was considered one of the best high school players of his time in Canada and was ranked 148th nationally by Hoop Masters.
