2008–09 Czech First League
The 2008–09 Czech First League, known as the Gambrinus liga for sponsorship reasons, was the sixteenth season of Czech Republic's top-tier of football. It began on 2 August 2008 and ended on 30 May 2009. Slavia Prague were the defending champions. Slavia secured their 17th title overall after a 3–1 win away against Viktoria Žižkov in 28th round. They were the first club to defend Czech title since the 2000–01 season. Promotion and relegation Most and Bohemians 1905 were relegated to the second division after finishing last and second to last, respectively, in the previous season. FK Bohemians Prague (StřÞkov) (as champions) and 1. FK PÅ™Ãbram (as runners-up) were promoted from the second division. Czech First League
The Czech First League, known as the Fortuna liga for sponsorship reasons, is a Czech professional league for football clubs. At the top of the Czech football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Seasons typically run from August to May, most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays with few games played on Fridays. All Fortuna liga clubs qualify for the Czech Cup. The history of the Czech football league began with its reorganization for the 1993–94 season following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia and therefore the league became the successor of the Czechoslovak League. Thirty-five clubs have competed in the Fortuna liga since its founding. Sparta Prague has won the title 12 times, the most among Czech clubs. SK Dynamo České Budějovice is a association football, football club from České Budějovice, Czech Republic. They currently play in the Czech First League, the first tier of football in the Czech Republic. History The club was founded in 1899 as Sportovnà kroužek České Budějovice and in 1905 as Sportovnà klub České Budějovice. FC Zbrojovka Brno is a professional football club based in the city of Brno, South Moravia, Czech Republic and named after Zbrojovka Brno, a firearms manufacturer. Founded in 1913 as SK Židenice, the club later became known as Zbrojovka Brno. Brno won the Czechoslovak First League in the 1977–78 season and finished as runners-up in 1979–80. Bohemians 1905
Bohemians Praha 1905 (previously named FC Bohemians Praha) is a Prague-based football club, which was founded in 1905 as AFK VrÅ¡ovice. The club won the 1982–83 Czechoslovak First League, its only league championship. Its colours are green and white. The best known player from Bohemians' history is AntonÃn Panenka, who is now the club chairman. Bohemians' mascot is a kangaroo, the legacy of a 1927 tour of Australia.
