2008–09 Burnley F.C. Season
The 2008–09 season was Burnley's 9th season in the second tier of English football. They were managed by Owen Coyle – his second season since he replaced Steve Cotterill on 8 November 2007. Burnley finished fifth in the league but were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Football League Championship playoffs. Burnley F
Burnley () is a town and the administrative centre of the wider Borough of Burnley in Lancashire, England, with a 2001 population of 73,021. It is north of Manchester and east of Preston, at the confluence of the River Calder and River Brun. The town is located near the countryside to the south and east, with the towns of Padiham and Brierfield to the west and north respectively. It has a reputation as a regional centre of excellence for the manufacturing and aerospace industries. The town began to develop in the early medieval period as a number of farming hamlets surrounded by manor houses and royal forests, and has held a market for more than 700 years. Christian Kalvenes
Christian Kalvenes (born 8 March 1977) is a retired Norwegian footballer who played as a defender. During his career he had three spells with SK Brann and played for Åsane and Sogndal. He also played abroad for Dundee United in Scotland and Burnley in England. Career Norway Christian Kalvenes was born in the city of Bergen and started his senior career with SK Brann, but played only one match. 10 years and one day after his first match, he played his second league appearance for the club, against FC Lyn Oslo 29 May 2005. In the meantime, he played for both Åsane and Sogndal. Despite the fact that he was one of the great talents of Brann in the 1990s, he never managed to establish himself in the A-team squad. Robbie Blake
Robert James Blake (born 4 March 1976) is an English former professional footballer and current coach at Bognor Regis Town. He began his career as a striker but was increasingly used as midfielder in the latter part of his career. He began his professional career with Darlington in 1994 and went on to make more than 500 appearances in the Football League and Premier League playing for Bradford City, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Birmingham City, Leeds United, Bolton Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers. Jay Enrique Rodriguez (born 29 July 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Burnley. Rodriguez began his career with his hometown club Burnley, for whom he scored 41 goals in 128 appearances across all competitions from his debut in 2007. Alan Joseph Mahon (born 4 April 1978) is an Irish former professional footballer who played a midfielder and was capped by the Republic of Ireland. Playing career Club career Early career Dublin-born Mahon, who was educated at St. James Street Christian Brothers Secondary School in the Irish capital, joined English Football League club Tranmere Rovers in 1995. In five years at the club, Mahon made a total of 144 appearances, scoring fourteen goals. Gábor Király
Gábor Ferenc Király (; born 1 April 1976) is a Hungarian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. In his 25-year-long playing career, Király spent most of his career in Germany and England. He signed for Hertha BSC in 1997, going on to appear in 198 official games, and played for 1860 Munich later in his career. In England, he represented Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Fulham and had loan spells with West Ham United, and Aston Villa. In 2015, he re-joined his hometown team Szombathelyi Haladás. Chris McCann (footballer)
Christopher John McCann (born 21 July 1987) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Shamrock Rovers. A graduate of the youth system at Home Farm, McCann joined Burnley as a teenager, making his first team debut in 2005. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the club before joining Wigan Athletic on a free transfer in 2013. He has also won one cap for the Republic of Ireland U19 team. Brian Jensen (goalkeeper)
Brian Paldan Jensen (born 8 June 1975) is a Danish retired professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is currently the first team goalkeeping coach at Shrewsbury Town. He played more than 300 English league games for Burnley and West Bromwich Albion. Jensen started his career with Danish lower-league club B.93, before joining Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar in 1997. Wade Patrick Elliott (born 14 December 1978) is an English former professional footballer who is currently head coach of EFL League One club Cheltenham Town. He played mainly as a right midfielder but could also play as a central midfielder. Elliott began playing football as a youth player for Southampton before joining non-league Bashley. Kevin McDonald (footballer, Born 1988)
Kevin David McDonald (born 4 November 1988) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Exeter City. He began his career with Dundee before moving to England to sign for Burnley, for whom he played one season in the Premier League. He spent two full seasons with Sheffield United before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2013 where he spent three seasons.
