2008–09 Bangladeshi Cricket Season
The 2008–09 Bangladeshi cricket season featured Test series between Bangladesh and New Zealand, and between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The other Test was drawn, and Bangladesh won the remaining ODI. Sri Lanka also played two Tests in Bangladesh in December 2008 and January 2009, winning both. They were also involved in a triangular ODI tournament with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in the final. Test Cricket
Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. The term "test match" was originally coined in 1861–62 but in a different context. Test cricket did not become an officially recognised format until the 1890s, but many international matches since 1877 have been retrospectively awarded Test status. The first such match took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in March 1877 between teams which were then known as a Combined Australian XI and James Lillywhite's XI, the latter a team of visiting English professionals. Bangladesh National Cricket Team
The Bangladesh men's national cricket team ( bn, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দল), popularly known as The Tigers, is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). New Zealand National Cricket Team
The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Named the Black Caps, they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. From 1930 New Zealand had to wait until 1956, more than 26 years, for its first Test victory, against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. National Cricket League Of Bangladesh
The National Cricket League is the oldest domestic first-class cricket competition in Bangladesh. It is contested by teams representing seven of the eight regional divisions of Bangladesh (there is no team from Mymensingh Division) as well as a team from the Dhaka metropolitan area. History and format The National Cricket League was inaugurated in the 1999–2000 season but was not then first-class. Bangladesh became the tenth Full Member of the ICC in 2000 and the league became first-class in the 2000–01 season. Rajshahi Division Cricket Team
The Rajshahi Division cricket team is a Bangladeshi first-class team representing the Rajshahi Division, one of the country's seven administrative regions. The team competes in the National Cricket League and was formerly a participant in the now-defunct National Cricket League One-Day. In the short-lived National Cricket League Twenty20 competition, played in the 2009–10 season only, Rajshahi adopted the name Rajshahi Rangers and played in their official grey, black, and red colours. The equivalent team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the Rajshahi Kings. Rajshahi's main home ground is the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium in Rajshahi city, which has a 15,000 capacity. The Barisal Division cricket team or Barisal Blazers is a Bangladeshi first-class team representing the Barisal Division, one of the seven administrative regions in Bangladesh. Faisal Hossain
Faisal Hossain (born 26 October 1978) is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He played international cricket for Bangladesh in 2004, one Test match and four One Day Internationals without establishing himself in the side. After poor performances at international level, Hossain drifted out of the international squad. He represents Chittagong Division in Bangladesh's domestic competition. Although primarily a batsman, Hossain is a part-time left arm spin bowler. Career Hossain made his One Day International (ODI) debut against the West Indies on 18 May 2004, scoring 17 runs at number five. He played three more ODIs, the last on 29 July 2004 against Pakistan where he scored 17 which remained his highest score. Suhrawadi Shuvo
Mohammad Sohrawordi Shuvo (born 21 November 1988) is a Bangladeshi international cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler. He played for Rajshahi Division from 2004/05 through the 2006/07 season and also appeared for Bangladesh Under-19s in 2005/06 and the Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy in 2006/07. He has taken 5 wickets in a first-class innings on 5 occasions, with a best of 6 for 112 against Sylhet Division. He also took 3 for 9 against the same team in a one-day game. Shuvo was part of the 13-man Bangladesh squad that played in the 2010 Asian Games in late November. History Of Cricket In Bangladesh
The history of cricket in Bangladesh predates the foundation of the Bangladeshi state in 1971 by nearly two centuries. Cricket was introduced to Bengal by the British in the eighteenth century but its growth in East Bengal was slow. Following Partition and the creation of East Pakistan, both first-class and Test cricket were played there during the 1950s and 1960s. Although cricket continued to be popular after independence, especially in Dhaka, the country lost first-class status and had to establish itself in international competition as an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
