The Azerbaijan Cup 2008–09 was the 17th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan. It started on 17 September 2008 with two games of Preliminary Round and ended on 23 May 2009 with the Final held at Tofik Bakhramov Stadium The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika Stadionu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan Cup
The Azerbaijan Cup is a major association football competition in Azerbaijan. In its original form, it started in 1936, when Azerbaijan was a republic of the Soviet Union and it was not disputed by Azerbaijani teams in the Soviet league pyramid. Compared to cups in many other countries, Azerbaijan attracts considerably less public interest and even the cup final is rarely sold out. Consequently, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan has experimented with the format in order to raise the profile of the cup. Format The clubs from Azerbaijan First Division (2nd tier) play in the First Round. The winners of that round advance to the Second Round, where the clubs from Azerbaijan Premier League (1st tier) join. For the quarterfinals and the semifinals, the round-robin system is used. Vagif Javadov
Vagif Javadov ( az, Vaqif Cavadov; born 25 May 1989) is an Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijani Association football, football coach and a former player who played as a Forward (association football), striker. He was voted Azerbaijani Footballer of the Year in 2009. Javadov started playing football at age 7 and attended one of the local football schools under Vagif Pashayev. He joined PFC CSKA Moscow, CSKA's youth system at 11, playing for the club's youth and reserve teams as a striker. In 2007, he left PFC CSKA Moscow, CSKA Moscow and joined FK Qarabağ, Qarabağ. MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the same concept of military sports club as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia. History The club was established under name OIK ( az, Ordu İdman Klubu; en, Sports Club of Army) in 1961 as sport society of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and was funded by USSR Ministry of Defense until 1990 and Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense since 1993. Mughan FK ( az, Muğan Futbol Klubu) was an Azerbaijani football club, based in Salyan.. The club reached the Azerbaijan Premier League for the first time in 2008–2009. Karvan FK ( az, Karvan İdman Klubu) was an Azerbaijani football club based in Yevlakh, that participated in the Azerbaijan First Division. It was the first Azerbaijan club to pass the first qualification stage in the UEFA Cup.
