Dutch Television
Television in the Netherlands was officially Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1951. In the Netherlands, the television market is divided between a number of commercial networks, such as RTL Nederland, and a system of public broadcasters sharing three channels, NPO 1, NPO 2, and NPO 3. Imported programmes (except those for children), as well as news interviews with responses in a foreign language, are almost always shown in their original language, with subtitles. Reception In the Netherlands, television can be watched analog or digital (the latter with the option of HDTV or Ultra-high-definition television, UHD). Over 2018, 89.2% of Dutch viewers received television digitally. Analogue television is only available via some cable operators and some fiber to the home providers, since the Dutch government ended analogue reception via airwaves in 2006. RTV-7 is a Dutch television network featuring programming from the Dutch Caribbean. Its targeted audience consists mainly of people from the former Netherlands Antilles living in the Netherlands. Most of the programmes on RTV7 are in Papiamento as they are produced by the Curaçaoan network TeleCuraçao. TMF Dance (formerly TMF Party) was a digital theme channel part of MTV Networks Benelux. The channel, along with the channels TMF Pure, TMF NL, and Nick Jr. Nick Jr. (known on-air as the Nick Jr. Channel) is an American pay television channel spun off from Nickelodeon's long-running programming block of the same name. It is run by Paramount Global through its networks division's Kids and Family Gr ..., launched on 1 May 2005. The purpose of the TMF Dance was to play a nonstop mix of dance music. ''Film1 Action'' is a Dutch premium television channel owned by SPI International. Its main focus is on thriller, action and horror films. Film1 launched together with its sister service Sport1 on 1 February 2006 and replaced the Canal+ Netherlands television channels. Comedy Central Family was a television channel broadcasting comedy TV series. It launched in the Netherlands as a joint venture between Viacom International Media Networks and Endemol. It featured both foreign acquisitions and Dutch series from the Endemol libraries. Its launch was originally scheduled for 1 September 2008. It was, however, delayed and the channel eventually launched through cable operator Ziggo on 1 October 2008. On the channel, the Dutch, American, British and Flemish comedy series are aired. Comedy Central Family was available via cable company Ziggo, KPN, Delta and Caiway. Comedy Central Family closed in the Netherlands on 31 May 2018. ESPN (Netherlands)
ESPN is a Dutch group of pay television sports channels, owned by ESPN Inc., a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (which owns a controlling 80% stake) and the Hearst Communications (which owns the remaining 20%) and operated by Eredivisie Media & Marketing CV in which The Walt Disney Company (Benelux) BV has 51% ownership. ESPN launched as Fox Sports on 1 August 2013, buying out the Eredivisie Live service from the Dutch Football League. OutTV (European TV Channel)
OutTV (stylized as OUTtv) is a Netherlands-based television channel which can be viewed via cable television/digital television as a premium channel in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Israel and Spain. OutTV was launched on 2 April 2008 by OUTtv Media B.V. and has been available on cable since 11 April 2008. OutTV was founded as a collaboration with the OutTV (Canada), Canadian channel of the same name, whereby the brand and many of the programmes were licensed. X Factor (Dutch TV Series)
''X Factor'' was a Dutch television music talent show contested by aspiring pop singers drawn from public auditions. It was shown Friday evenings on the RTL4 Network in the Netherlands. The show aired between 2006 and 2013 and was produced by Blue Circle. The "X Factor" of the title refers to the undefinable "something" that makes for star quality. ''X Factor'' replaced the highly successful '' Idols'', which was pulled from television after the third and fourth seasons. In the initial televised audition phase of the show, contestants sang in front of the ''X Factor'' judges in the hope of getting through to the "boot camp". After a further selection process, the judges were each given a category to mentor and the chosen finalists then progress to the second phase of the competition in which the public vote on live performances. Nikki Gouman (also known as Nikki Nola; born 21 December 1983) is a Dutch singer and the winner of the fourth series of Idols, the Dutch variant on Pop Idol. On the first of March 2008 she won the singing contest with 62% of all the votes from the other finalist Nathalie Makoma . Her single "Perfect Day" will also be released in the rest of Europe as her European debut single. ''De Club van Sinterklaas'' (English literal title: ''The Club of Sinterklaas'', international title: ''St. Nicholas & Friends'') was a Dutch seasonal children's telenovella between 1999 and 2009 based on the legend of Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet. Since 2010, ''De club van Sinterklaas'' continues as a YouTube channel and a film series. The series attracted mass popularity in the Netherlands during its television running time. Several of the series theme songs charted in the Dutch Single Top 100 and its 2005 and 2006 theme songs even topped the charts. It became the only Sinterklaas-related children's programme to be ever nominated for a Gouden Stuiver, where it lost out to ''Het Huis Anubis''.
