The Socialist Party of Albania ( sq, Partia Socialiste e Shqipërisë, PS or PSSh) is a social-democratic political party in Albania. It has been described as centre-left, to left-wing. It was founded on 13 June 1991. The PS is an associate of the Party of European Socialists and a member of the Socialist International, and holds pro-European views. History The PS' predecessor, the Party of Labour of Albania (''Partia e Punës së Shqipërisë - PPSH''), was formed in November 1941, and has been known as the Socialist Party (''Partia Socialiste - PSSH'') since 1991, when it survived in the wake of the dramatic changes that had taken place in Albania since 1989. Albanian Party Of Labour
The Party of Labour of Albania ( sq, Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë, PPSh), sometimes referred to as the Albanian Workers' Party (AWP), was the ruling and sole legal party of Albania during the communist period (1945–1991). It was founded on 8 November 1941 as the Communist Party of Albania (, PKSh) but changed its name in 1948. The party was dissolved on 13 June 1991 and succeeded by the Socialist Party of Albania. For most of its existence, the party was dominated by its First Secretary, Enver Hoxha, who was also the ''de facto'' leader of Albania. Hekuran Isai
Hekuran Isai (7 May 1933 in Peqin – 26 March 2008 in Tirana) was an Albanian politician of the Albanian Party of Labour (PPSh). Life After joining the Albanian Party of Labour (Alb: ''Partia e Punes së Shqipërisë'') in 1957, he studied in the Soviet Union from 1957 to 1960. On his return Isai served as a specialist in a petroleum refinery in Cërrik. In 1962, he was elected first-deputy of the People's Assembly (Alb: ''Kuvendi Popullor''), and was also elected as a member of the parliament from the fifth until the end of the eleventh legislative, ending in 1991. He served initially as member of the Committee on Industry, Mining and Construction. At the 5th Congress of the Party in November 1966, he was elected first-candidate of the Central Committee (CC) of the Party. In 1967 he started studying at the Party's School "Vladimir Ilyich Lenin" in Tirana, majoring in Political Economy. Top Channel
Top Channel is a national commercial television network based in Tirana, Albania, founded by Dritan Hoxha in 2001. In January 2008, Top Channel was awarded national frequency coverage by making it the third such channel in Albania. In 2009, it was the first Albanian channel to become available in 16:9 widescreen high-definition television for selected programs. Since September 2003, Top Channel has been present on satellite by broadcasting all over Europe through DigitAlb, and North America through TVALB and Shqip TV. Albanians
The Albanians (; sq, Shqiptarët ) are an ethnic group and nation native to the Balkan Peninsula who share a common Albanian ancestry, culture, history and language. Dritan Hoxha
Dritan Hoxha (16 October 1968 – 23 May 2008) was an Albanian businessman. He was the founder of Top Media, Albania's largest media company. Hoxha who started his business career as a coffee importer with the Lori Caffe, founded Top Media in 1998. Media career Firstly he founded Albanian radio station "Top Albania Radio". Along with Top Media he also founded the digital platform "DigitAlb" and the newspaper "Shqip". In 2008, DigitAlb became the first European Platform with 6 High Definition Channels and the second in the world. This was a big achievement for Albania. He clashed with Prime Minister Sali Berisha over satellite broadcasting rights. Berisha fined Hoxha's group 13 million euros, but they later reached a compromise. Bashkim Gazidede - (2 February 1952 - 25 October 2008) was an Albanian mathematician, author, politician and a chief of the national intelligence agency. Life He was born Bashkim Shehu to Osman Shehu, a sheikh, nationalist and outspoken anticommunist from Dibër County. Osman Shehu underwent persecutions and humiliations during communist rule. All of his family changed the family name into Gazidede. Gazidede himself was a lifelong Muslim devotee. Fatmir Mediu (born 21 January 1967, in Durrës) is an Albanian conservative politician. He is the current Chairman of the Republican Party of Albania, and served as Minister of Defence from September 2005 to March 2008, and Minister of Environment, Forests & Water Administration. In March 2008, Mediu resigned from his position as Defence Minister following a military ammunition explosion in Gërdec, a village outside of the capital of Albania.
