2008 Washington Mystics Season
The 2008 WNBA season was the 11th season for the Washington Mystics women's professional basketball team. Despite a 10–16 record before the WNBA break for the Beijing Olympics, Mystics officials said that attendance at Verizon Center had risen from nearly 1,200 fans a game over the previous season, with total ticket revenue up 17 percent, and season-ticket sales for the 2008 season were up 20 percent from last season, bringing the team's base to nearly 3,000. Off-season On October 2, 2007, the Mystics announced that Tree Rollins would be named the permanent head coach. Tree Rollins
Wayne Monte "Tree" Rollins (born June 16, 1955) is an American former professional basketball player who played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Orlando Magic. Career The , Clemson University graduate played center, and gained high esteem for his defense, particularly his rebounding and shot- blocking ability. On February 21, 1979, Rollins blocked a career high 12 shots in a 106-83 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. In all, he finished in the top three in blocked shots six times, including leading the league during the 1982–83 NBA season, during which he would finish second in NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award voting. DeLisha Milton-Jones
DeLisha Lachell Milton-Jones (born September 11, 1974) is an American retired professional basketball player and head coach of Old Dominion. Milton-Jones played college basketball for the University of Florida. She was a first-team All-American and SEC Player of the Year her senior season. Milton-Jones began her professional career in 1997 with the Portland Power, who drafted her second overall in the American Basketball League (ABL). After the dissolution of the ABL in 1998, Milton-Jones entered into the 1999 WNBA Draft and was selected fourth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks. Colleen Mary “Coco” Miller (born September 6, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. She is the identical twin sister of fellow WNBA player Kelly Miller. Early years Born in Rochester, Minnesota, Coco played basketball with her sister at Mayo High School, and made it to a championship in, where she lost in the finals. Laurie Koehn
Laurie Koehn (born May 13, 1982) is a former professional basketball player, who is currently the associate coach for the Washington State Cougars women's basketball team. Education Born in Newton, Kansas, Koehn attended Moundridge High School in Moundridge, Kansas. Koehn graduated from Kansas State University in 2005. Alana Beard
Alana Monique Beard (born May 14, 1982) is an American former professional basketball player. After playing college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, she was drafted second overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2004 WNBA Draft. She signed on with the Los Angeles Sparks as a free agent in 2012. Beard was the 2017 and 2018 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. However, she was injured next season, only contributing a few points for the Sparks. Beard announced her retirement from the WNBA on January 23, 2020. Stacey Lovelace (born December 5, 1974) is an American professional basketball player who played in the WNBA. Lovelace attended college at Purdue University and graduated in 1996. On May 2, 2000, she was assigned with the Indiana Fever later in 2000 Lovelace played with the Seattle Storm. She also had stints with the Minnesota Lynx, Chicago Sky, and the Washington Mystics. On March 27, 2008, Lovelace signed with the Atlanta Dream. She was waived on July 8, 2008, and became a free agent. Nikki Teasley (born March 22, 1979) is a former basketball player in the WNBA. Born in Washington, D.C., she played college basketball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the 2002 WNBA Draft, Teasley was selected as the #5 overall pick by the Portland Fire. But shortly afterwards, she was traded with Sophia Witherspoon to the Los Angeles Sparks for Ukari Figgs and second-round pick Gergana Slavtcheva. The San Antonio Stars were a professional basketball team based in San Antonio, playing in the Western Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team was founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the Utah Starzz before the league's inaugural 1997 season began; then moved to San Antonio before the 2003 season and became the San Antonio Silver Stars, then simply the San Antonio Stars in 2014. Kendra Renee Wecker (born December 16, 1982 in Marysville, Kansas) is a former American professional basketball player in the WNBA. She formerly played forward for the San Antonio Silver Stars and Washington Mystics. In the off season, she played in the Spanish league with UB F.C Barcelona. Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, playing in the Eastern Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team was founded before the 2000 season began. The team is owned by Herb Simon, who also owns the Fever's NBA counterpart, the Indiana Pacers, and Simon Malls. The Fever has qualified for the WNBA Playoffs in 13 of its 21 seasons in Indiana. Amber Jacobs (born June 29, 1982) is a former professional basketball player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), for the Los Angeles Sparks. She then became the assistant athletic director for Clarks Summit University and their head women's basketball coach. Prior to that, Jacobs was an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island women's basketball team under her former head coach at Boston College Cathy Inglese. After attending Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, Jacobs attended college at Boston College and graduated in 2004.
