2008 WPS Player Allocation
The Women's Professional Soccer Player Allocation distributed 21 players from the United States women's national soccer team player pool to seven teams in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) for the league's inaugural season. Process The allocation followed a process in which the players and teams submitted their preferences to the league. A committee then reviewed the lists to provide its recommendations. The WPS Board of Governors met on September 14–15, 2008 to consult with the players, teams and league to determine the best possible dispersal for all parties with the following allocation results. Women's Professional Soccer
Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) was the top-level professional women's soccer league in the United States. It began play on March 29, 2009. The league was composed of seven teams for its first two seasons and fielded six teams for the 2011 season, with continued plans for future expansion. The WPS was the highest level in the United States soccer pyramid for the women's game. On January 30, 2012, the league announced suspension of the 2012 season, citing several internal organization struggles as the primary cause. Some of these issues included an ongoing legal battle with magicJack owner Dan Borislow and the lack of resources invested into the league. On May 18, 2012, WPS announced the league folded and would not return in 2013. Kate Markgraf
Kathryn Michele Markgraf (; born August 23, 1976) is the General Manager of the United States women's national soccer team and a retired American professional soccer defender. She previously played for the Chicago Red Stars in the WPS, the Boston Breakers in the WUSA, and the United States women's national soccer team. She was a three-time Olympic medalist (2000, silver; 2004, gold; 2008, gold as team co-captain) and played in three FIFA Women's World Cup (1999, gold; 2003, bronze; 2007, bronze) tournaments. Ali Krieger
Alexandra Blaire Krieger (born July 28, 1984) is an American soccer player for NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the highest division of women's professional soccer in the United States, and the United States women's national soccer team. She first appeared for the United States national team at the 2008 Four Nations Tournament during a match against Canada on January 16, 2008. She has since made more than 100 total appearances for the team. Krieger has represented the United States at three FIFA Women's World Cups: 2011 in Germany, 2015 in Canada, and 2019 in France. Christina Jo Ellertson (; born May 20, 1982) is an American former professional soccer defender and former member of the United States women's national soccer team. Early life Ellertson was born and grew up in Vancouver, Washington. The daughter of a Nigerian mother and a Ghanaian father who migrated to the U.S., she played soccer throughout her childhood. University of Washington Ellertson originally signed to attend Santa Clara University but instead went to the University of Washington.
