2008 Victoria Cup
The 2008 Victoria Cup was the first edition of the Victoria Cup challenge, played on October 1, 2008, between the 2008 European Champions Cup winners, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL), at the PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland. The game was played under IIHF rules. The Rangers won the challenge as they battled from a 3–0 deficit to win the game 4–3. The match was preceded on September 30, 2008, by an exhibition between host SC Bern and the New York Rangers, meant to commemorate the centennial of the Swiss Ice Hockey Association. However the additional game, the first ever between a Swiss team and an NHL team, ended up competing with the main event at the box office. With tickets steeply priced, neither game sold out and a number of Swiss fans favored the SC Bern game, which drew a significantly larger audience (16,022) than the actual Victoria Cup game. O2 Arena (Prague)
O2 Arena (formerly Sazka Arena, stylised as O2 arena) is a multi-purpose arena, in Prague, Czech Republic. It is home to HC Sparta Prague of the Czech Extraliga and is the second-largest ice hockey arena in Europe. Ryan Callahan
Ryan G. Callahan (born March 21, 1985) is an Americans, American former professional ice hockey winger (ice hockey), right winger who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stanislav Chistov
Stanislav Mikhailovich Chistov (russian: Станислав Михайлович Чистов; born April 17, 1983) is a Russian professional ice hockey player currently playing for HC Lada Togliatti of the Supreme Hockey League. Playing career Prior to playing professionally, Chistov played for the Georgetown Raiders Junior A hockey club in Georgetown, Ontario. Chistov began his career in the Avangard Omsk organization, playing for their Russian Superleague team in Omsk from 1999–2002. In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Chistov was drafted fifth overall by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. While military obligations complicated Chistov's transfer to North America, he and fellow draftee Alexander Frolov left Russia anyway, in 2002, ultimately signing with the Ducks after a prolonged dispute with Russian officials. Dan Fritsche
Daniel J. Fritsche (born July 13, 1985) is a Swiss-American former professional ice hockey forward. He played for Genève-Servette HC, HC Lugano and the ZSC Lions in the National League (NL) and in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New York Rangers and the Minnesota Wild. Playing career Fritsche began his junior hockey career with his hometown Cleveland Barons of the North American Hockey League. He then played for the Sarnia Sting and the London Knights, and won a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship, playing for the United States. He has served as the president and general manager for the New York Rangers since May 5, 2021. He previously served as the general manager of the Rangers American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Alexei Pavlovich Kaigorodov (russian: Алексей Павлович Кайгородов; born July 29, 1983) is a Russian former professional ice hockey forward who last played with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Playing career Alexei Kaigorodov started his professional career with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the then Russian Super League (RSL) in 2001, where he played for five seasons. On August 24, 2006, Kaigorodov's contract was voluntarily suspended by Magnitogorsk, allowing him to pursue an NHL contract. Soon after, he signed a two-year contract with the Ottawa Senators. Vladimir Malenkikh
Vladimir Malenkikh (born October 1, 1980) is a Russian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played most notably in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He was drafted 157th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Malenkikh started his career with Lada Togliatti in 1999 and remained with the team until 2005. He spent the next six seasons with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, staying with the team until the conclusion of the 2010-11 KHL season. Malenkikh signed with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on May 12, 2011, joining the team with long-time friend Alexander Yevseyenkov. Paul Richard Mara (born September 7, 1979) is an American former professional ice hockey defender, and current head coach of the Boston Pride in the PHF (formerly NWHL). He was selected 7th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, and went on to play 12 seasons in the National Hockey League.
