2008 Vanderbilt Commodores Baseball Team
The 2008 Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team represented Vanderbilt University in the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball season. The team played at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tennessee. The team was coached by Tim Corbin in his sixth season at Vanderbilt. The previous season, Corbin's team posted a 54-13 record and won the SEC regular season crown and the SEC tournament. They also hosted a regional for the first time in school history, eventually falling to Michigan in an extra-innings heartbreaker. Tim Corbin
Timothy Carter Corbin (born August 5, 1961) is the head baseball coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. Since becoming coach at Vanderbilt in 2003, Corbin has transformed the Commodores from a perennial Southeastern Conference doormat to an elite program. When he arrived in 2003, Vanderbilt had only had six winning seasons in SEC play since baseball became a scholarship sport in 1968, and had only been to three NCAA Tournaments in school history. Since then, they have been to all but one NCAA Tournament since 2004. On June 25, 2014, he led the team to Vanderbilt's first ever men's NCAA Championship in any sport, winning the College World Series. In his first ten years, Corbin amassed a 411-217 record with the Commodores. His 2013 Commodores team set an SEC record for wins, going 26-3 in conference. Mike Calitri
Michael Hennessey Calitri (born March 14, 1978) is an American professional baseball coach. He is the bench coach for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball. Career Calitri is from Canton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School, then attended Clemson University, where he played college baseball for the Clemson Tigers. He signed with the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent, and played for the Reds organization until 2003, when he was released by the Reds. Calitri signed with the Boston Red Sox, and was released by Boston in 2004. He returned to Clemson to complete his degree and went into sales. Vanderbilt University hired Calitri as their director of baseball operations in 2005. In 2009, the Tampa Bay Rays hired Calitri to run their advance scouting program. Kansas Jayhawks Baseball
The Kansas Jayhawks baseball team represents the University of Kansas and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. History Baseball has been played at the University of Kansas since 1880. In 1993, Kansas had arguably its best season to date. That year the Jayhawks went to the 1993 College World Series in Omaha, NE. This was their first, and so far, only CWS appearance. The Jayhawks were led by All-Americans Jeff Berblinger, Jeff Neimeier and Jimmy Walker into the Mideast Regional in Knoxville, Tenn. After losing their first game to Fresno State, 7–4, the Jayhawks rebounded against host Tennessee for a 3–2 win. Jayhawk Freshman Jamie Splittorff, son of former Kansas City Royal Paul Splittorff, got the win for KU going 8 innings. Evansville Aces Baseball
The Evansville Purple Aces are the intercollegiate sports teams and players of the University of Evansville, located in Evansville, Indiana. The Aces athletic program is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and competes at the NCAA's Division I level. Evansville's mascot is Ace Purple, and the school colors are purple, white and orange. Prior to joining Division I in 1977, the Aces were in the Division II men's basketball championship tournaments 15 of 20 years and won the title in 1959, '60, '64, '65, and '71. The Miami RedHawks baseball team (formerly the Miami Redskins) is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, United States. The team is a member of the Mid-American Conference East division, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. Miami's first baseball team was fielded in 1915. Arizona State Sun Devils Baseball
The Arizona State Sun Devils baseball program at the Arizona State University (ASU) is part of the Pac-12 Conference. Since it became a member of the Pac-12, it had the highest winning percentage, at .681, of all schools that participate in Division I baseball within the conference. ASU's NCAA leading 54 consecutive 30 win seasons was the longest streak in the nation. The Sun Devils have had just four losing seasons in program history (1963, 2017, 2018, and 2022). The Sun Devils had been nationally ranked during at least a part of every season of their 58-year history until 2017. Packard Stadium
Packard Stadium was a college baseball park in the southwestern United States, located in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb just east of Phoenix. It was the home field of the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Pac-12 Conference from 1974 to 2014. Opened in 1974, it was named for William Guthrie Packard, longtime president of Shepard's Citations, made possible by a gift from his children, Guthrie and Peter, who were ASU alumni. Oregon State Beavers Baseball
The Oregon State Beavers baseball team represents Oregon State University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in the Pac-12 Conference. They are currently coached by Mitch Canham and assistant coaches Ryan Gipson, Darwin Barney and Rich Dorman. They play home games in Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Caleb Cotham
Caleb Kent Cotham (born November 6, 1987) is an American former professional baseball pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees (2015) and Cincinnati Reds (2016). He is currently the pitching coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2019–20, Cotham served as the Reds’ assistant pitching coach, eventually becoming the team's director of pitching.
