2008 Speedway Grand Prix Of Germany
The 2008 Speedway Grand Prix of Germany was the eleventh and closing race of the 2008 Speedway Grand Prix season. It was scheduled to take place on 11 October 2008, in the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. However, the meeting was cancelled because the track (temporary) was deemed unsafe by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) jury due to adverse weather conditions. The event was re-staged at the Polonia Stadium, Bydgoszcz, Poland, on the 18 October and was renamed the 2008 FIM Final Speedway Grand Prix. The Grand Prix was won by Polish rider Tomasz Gollob, who also won the 2008 Super Prix. Riders The Speedway Grand Prix Commission nominated Martin Smolinski as a wild card, and Tobias Kroner and Max Dilger both as track reserves. Kevin Wölbert later replaced the injured Max Dilger. Kevin Wölbert (born 14 June 1989) is a German speedway rider who has won Individual German Champion title in 2008. Career history When Max Dilger was injured, Wölbert was nominated as second track reserve at the 2008 German Grand Prix. But, after re-staged this event in Bydgoszcz, Poland (as the Final Grand Prix), Wölbert was replaced by Pole Grzegorz Zengota. Due to having Polish roots through his grandmother, Wölbert has been interest of Polish citizenship. He applied for citizenship in November 2009 in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Office in Bydgoszcz. His application was support by President of Grudziądz Robert Malinowski and a GTŻ Grudziądz, his Polish team. His application will be consider by the President of the Republic of Poland. Martin Smolinski
Martin Smolinski (born 6 December 1984, in Munich, West Germany) is a former international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider from Germany. He is eight times champion of Germany. Career Smolinksi began riding in his natiove Germany for MSC Olching. He became the German junior champion in 2003 and after reaching the final 2003 Speedway Under-21 World Championship he signed for Coventry Bees in England. Coventry retained him for the following two seasons and his form improved over the next two seasons. In 2006, he signed for his first Polish club Rybnik and in 2007 became the German Champion for the first time. Also in 2007, he won the league and cup double with Coventry during the 2007 Elite League speedway season. Krzysztof Kasprzak (; born 18 July 1984 in Leszno, Poland) is an international speedway rider who became World Under-21 Champion in 2005 and won the silver medal during the 2014 Speedway Grand Prix. He grew up in Randaberg Norway, but has been a Polish citizen since 2002, allowing him to represent Poland in international competitions and was a member of their Speedway World Cup winning teams in 2005, 2007 & 2010. Jan Fredrik Tobias (Freddie) Lindgren (born 15 September 1985) is a Swedish motorcycle speedway rider. He has twice won the bronze medal at the Speedway World Championship and won the world team championships in 2015. Career Born in Örebro, Sweden. Lindgren's father Tommy was a speedway rider before him, and his younger brother Ludvig also rides. Lindgren first appeared for Wolverhampton Wolves during the 2003 season as the team struggled with injuries. At the age of just 17, Freddie made his debut for the team and impressed enough to be brought back the following season when again injuries hit the club. He was a member of the Sweden speedway team that won the World Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2015.
