2008 San Francisco 49ers Season
The 2008 season was the San Francisco 49ers' 59th in the National Football League, their 63rd overall, and their fourth and final under the head coach Mike Nolan. The team improved on their 5–11 record from the 2007 season, and ended the season with a 7–9 record. They failed to reach the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. It was the final season that the 49ers wore their 1996 dark red uniforms. With the 49ers offense struggling the previous season, offensive coordinator Jim Hostler was fired and replaced by Mike Martz. In addition, Scot McCloughan was promoted from vice president of player personnel to general manager. Mike Nolan was terminated after a 29–17 loss to the New York Giants in Week 8. NFC West
The National Football Conference - Western Division or NFC West is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It currently has four members: the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks. The division was formed in 1967 as the National Football League Coastal Division, keeping with the theme of having all of the league's divisions starting with the letter "C." The division was so named because its teams were fairly close to the coasts of the United States, although they were on opposite coasts, making for long travel between division rivals. DeShaun Foster
DeShaun Xavier Foster (born January 10, 1980) is a former American football running back, who currently serves as the running backs coach at UCLA. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at UCLA. He is a member of the 2022 class of the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame. Early years Foster was born to father Albert and mother Cheryl. He attended Tustin High School in Tustin, California, and lettered three times each in football and basketball, and four times in track. Dontarrious Dewayne Thomas (born September 2, 1980) is a former American football linebacker who last played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Auburn. Donald Darell Strickland (born November 24, 1980) is a former American football cornerback. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at the Colorado Buffaloes football, University of Colorado Boulder. Strickland has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, and New York Jets. Early years Strickland attended Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, San Francisco, California. As a senior at Riordan, Strickland was a standout All-League running back. Isa'ako "Isaac" Sopoaga (pronounced ; born September 4, 1981) is a former American football nose tackle. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Hawaii. Early years Sopoaga attended Samoana High School in Pago Pago, Eastern School District, American Samoa and was a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. Justin Smith (born September 30, 1979), nicknamed "the Cowboy", is a former American football defensive end who played in the National Football League (NFL). Allen Bonshaca Lamont Rossum (born October 22, 1975) is a former American football cornerback and return specialist. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Notre Dame.
