2008 Open Championship
The 2008 Open Championship was a men's major golf championship and the 137th Open Championship, played from 17 to 20 July at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. Pádraig Harrington successfully defended his Open Championship title, his second; he shot four under par over the final nine holes and was four strokes ahead of runner-up Ian Poulter. Harrington was the last golfer to win the same major back-to-back for a decade until Brooks Koepka won consecutive U.S. Opens in 2017 and 2018. Television coverage was provided as usual by the BBC in the UK, and by ABC and TNT in the United States. Field World Number One Tiger Woods was the most notable absentee, as he was recovering from knee surgery following his victory at the U.S. Open. Ian James Poulter (born 10 January 1976) is an English professional golfer who plays in the LIV Golf League. He has previously been ranked as high as number 5 in the world rankings. The highlights of Poulter's career to date have been his two World Golf Championship wins at the 2010 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the 2012 WGC-HSBC Champions. Richard Green (golfer)
Richard George Green (born 19 February 1971) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life Green was born in Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria. Professional career Green turned professional in 1992, and joined the PGA Tour of Australasia the same year. He has been a member of the European Tour since 1996, with his first win coming at the 1997 Dubai Desert Classic, where he became the first left-hander to win on the European Tour since Bob Charles at the Swiss Open in 1974. Ben Clifford Curtis (born May 26, 1977) is an American professional golfer and 4-time winner on the PGA Tour, best known for winning the 2003 Open Championship.
