2008 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Team
The 2008 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team represented the University of Notre Dame in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Charlie Weis and played its home games at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. This was Weis's fourth season as Notre Dame's head coach, who entered the season with a 22–15 record, coming off a 3–9 season after posting back-to-back BCS seasons. The Irish started 4–1, but completed the regular season with a 6–6 record, including a 24–23 loss to Syracuse, the first time that Notre Dame had fallen to an eight-loss team. The combined 15 losses from 2007–08 marks the most losses for any two-year span. Despite speculation the university might fire Weis, it was announced shortly after the conclusion of the regular season that he would remain head coach in 2009. Charlie Weis
Charles Joseph Weis Sr. (born March 30, 1956) is a former American football coach. He was the head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 2005 to 2009 and the Kansas Jayhawks from 2012 to 2014. He also served as an offensive coordinator in the National Football League for the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Kansas City Chiefs. Weis currently hosts "Airing It Out," along with Bob Papa, on Sirius XM NFL Radio. Coaching career After graduating from Notre Dame in 1978, Weis began his coaching career at Boonton High School in New Jersey. Trevor Laws
Trevor David Laws (born June 14, 1985) is a former American football defensive tackle. After playing college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played for the Eagles for four seasons from 2008 to 2011 and spent the 2012 season with the Rams on their injured reserve list. Early years Laws was born in Dayton, Ohio, and played high school football and wrestled at Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. In football, Laws played fullback, linebacker, and defensive lineman. Laws was named Minnesota's Gatorade Player of the Year and was a first-team ESPN.com All-American. The 2008 San Diego State Aztecs football team represented San Diego State University in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were coached by Chuck Long and played their home games at Qualcomm Stadium. The 2008 season was expected to be rough for the Aztecs after losing several key offensive players to the National Football League (NFL). Jimmy Clausen
James Richard Clausen (born September 21, 1987) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) from 2010 to 2015. He played college football at Notre Dame and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was also a member of the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens. High school career Clausen had an outstanding prep career at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California. David Bruton (American Football)
David Lee Bruton Jr. (born July 23, 1987) is a former American football strong safety and special teamer. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Notre Dame. He was also a member of the Washington Redskins. High school career Bruton attended Miamisburg High School in Miamisburg, Ohio. As a senior, he recorded 54 tackles, three interceptions and broke up seven passes on defense, while catching 10 passes for 200 yards on offense. Jamoris Slaughter (born December 22, 1989) is a former American football safety. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at Notre Dame. High school Slaughter attended Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia where he helped lead the Tigers to the Class AAAA state semifinals before losing to the eventual state champions. His team finished the season with a 13-1 record and ranked No. 2 in the state. Braxston Cave (born July 29, 1989) is a former American football center. He went undrafted in the 2013 NFL draft. He played college football at Notre Dame. High school career Cave played for Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana.
