2008 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship
The 2008 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament was a tournament of 48 teams from NCAA Division I who played for the NCAA Championship in soccer. The College Cup for the final four teams was held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. All the other games were played at the home field of the higher-seeded team. The final was held on December 14, 2008. The bracket was announced November 17, 2008. The tournament started on November 21. The first round was played on November 21 and 22, and the second round on the 25th and 26th. The third round was played on November 29 and 30. The Regional Finals were played on December 6. Wake Forest Demon Deacons Men's Soccer
The Wake Forest University Demon Deacons men's soccer team is an NCAA Division I college soccer team composed of students attending Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They achieved their greatest result in 2007, winning the 2007 Division I Men's College Cup. Like all sports teams from Wake Forest, men's soccer competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Deacons play their home matches at Spry Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest. History left, Wake Forest (in white) v Boston College in 2005 Wake Forest fielded its first team in 1980, under the coaching of George Kennedy. The Deacons went 12-9-1 in their first season. Tony Cascio
Tony Cascio (born March 28, 1990) is an American soccer player. Career College and Amateur Tony begin his soccer career playing for Hamilton High School in his home town of Chandler, Arizona. Cascio played college soccer at the University of Connecticut between 2008 and 2011. During his time at UConn, Cascio was named 2010 NSCAA First Team All-American, Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 2010, and was a two-time All-Big East First Team selection in both 2009 and 2010. During his junior year, he was named NSCAA/Performance Subaru Division I First Team All-American, Soccer America MVP Second Team, and was a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist. Andre Akpan
Andre Ubong Akpan (born December 9, 1987) is an American former soccer player who most recently played for New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college Akpan was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, to a Nigerian father and an American mother. He played for coaches Hassan Nazari and David Hudgell on the '88 Dallas Texans, and his prolific scoring touch helped lead his team to back-to-back-to-back USYSA National Championships (U17, U18, U19), as well as a Dallas Cup Super Group Victory - a feat that no other American team has accomplished in the last 25 years. Chris Schuler
Chris Schuler (born September 6, 1987) is an American former soccer player who last played for Orlando City in Major League Soccer. He is currently pursuing an events management career with US Soccer. Career College and amateur Schuler attended college at Creighton University. During his time there he won awards such as MVP at the US Youth Soccer National Championships in July 2006, Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, NSCAA Second-Team All-America and NSCAA All-Midwest Region First-Team. During his college years Schuler also played for Chicago Fire Premier in the USL Premier Development League. Professional Schuler was drafted in the third round (39th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. Andrei Gotsmanov (born 6 May 1986) is a Belarusian footballer. Career College Gotsmanov grew up in Woodbury, Minnesota and played college soccer at Creighton University, with whom he earned the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Award and was named MVC Tournament MVP. Moreover, Gotsmanov was also awarded a first-team selection on the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men's Division I All-America Team, as well as a Hermann Trophy semi-finalist. Professional Gotsmanov was drafted in the second round (24th overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by New England Revolution, but opted to finish college before turning pro.
