2008 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2008 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament was the 52nd annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division II college basketball in the United States. Officially culminating the 2007–08 NCAA Division II men's basketball season, the tournament featured sixty-four teams from around the country. The Elite Eight, national semifinals, and championship were again played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Making a third consecutive appearance in the tournament final, Winona State (38–1) defeated Augusta State in, 87–76, to win their second Division II national championship and second in three seasons. MassMutual Center
The MassMutual Center (formerly Springfield Civic Center) is a multi-purpose arena and convention center complex located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, in the city's Metro Center. The arena opened in 1972 and the convention center opened in 2005. It serves as a venue for meetings, conventions, exhibitions, sporting and entertainment events. Previously owned and operated by the City of Springfield and various management groups until 1997, the city transferred ownership of the facility to the Massachusetts Legislature. The Christian Brothers University Buccaneers and Lady Buccaneers are the official sports teams of Christian Brothers University. The North Alabama Lions men's basketball team represents University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama, United States. The school's team currently competes in the ASUN Conference. The Florida Southern Moccasins (also shortened to Florida Southern Mocs) are the athletic teams that represent Florida Southern College, located in Lakeland, Florida, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports.
