2008 Miami Hurricanes Football Team
The 2008 Miami Hurricanes football team represented the University of Miami during the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It was the Hurricanes' 83rd season of football and 5th as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hurricanes were led by second-year head coach Randy Shannon and played their home games at Dolphin Stadium. They finished the season 7–6 overall and 4–4 in the ACC to finish in a tie for third place in the Coastal Division. They were invited to the Emerald Bowl where they lost to California, 24-17. Before the season Roster changes University of Miami safety Kenny Phillips and defensive end Calais Campbell made the decision to forgo their senior years and declare for the NFL Draft. Randy Shannon
Randy Leonard Shannon (born February 24, 1966) is an American football coach and former player who is currently the linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator for the Florida State Seminoles football program. Shannon was the head coach at the University of Miami from 2007 to 2010 and has served as an assistant coach for the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and several college teams, including stints as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes, the Florida Gators, and the UCF Knights. He won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top collegiate assistant coach while at Miami in 2001. Shannon was born and raised in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami, Florida. Kirby Lyn Freeman (born March 28, 1985) is a former American football quarterback. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Miami and Baylor. Early years Kirby Freeman played high school football at Brownwood High School, Brownwood, Texas, where his father coached. Freeman played on his varsity football team all four years he was in high school. He was a SuperPrep All-American and was rated the No. 2 quarterback in the nation and the No. 3 overall prospect in Texas by SuperPrep. Jackson Central-Merry High School
Jackson Central-Merry Middle and High School also known as (JCMMS, JCMHS, JCM 6-12 or JCM) is both a middle school and high school located in Jackson, Tennessee, United States. The school was active as a high school from 1970 to 2016, during which time it was once the largest in West Tennessee outside Memphis. The school was renovated and reopened as a middle and high school on September 20, 2021. History The school was formed in 1970 as a consolidation of predominantly white Jackson High School and predominantly black Merry High School. It was the first integrated high school in Jackson. Marcus Forston
Marcus Forston (born September 28, 1989) is an American football defensive tackle who is currently a free agent. Forston was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He played college football for the University of Miami. High school career Forston was a three-year starter at Miami Northwestern High School. Forston helped lead Miami Northwestern towards back-to-back Florida 6A state championships. Forston had a strong junior year in 2006 earning 92 tackles and 20 sacks. LaRon Byrd
LaRon Byrd (born August 18, 1989) is a former American football wide receiver. After going undrafted in 2012, he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He has also been a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, and Carolina Panthers. He played college football at Miami (FL). Early years and high school Byrd was considered the second-best receiver in Louisiana out of Hahnville High School. As a senior in 2007, caught 50 passes for 630 yards and 13 touchdowns. Arthur Brown (American Football)
Arthur Brown Jr. (born June 17, 1990) is a former American football linebacker. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at Kansas State University, where he earned All-American honors. Brown has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks. Early years Brown was born in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Wichita High School East in Wichita, and played high school football for the Wichita East Blue Aces. As a sophomore and junior he was a consensus first-team Class 6A all-state selection and as a junior he was named to the ''Wichita Eagle'' "Second 11" all-state team.
