2008 Men's Pan-American Volleyball Cup
The 2008 Pan-American Volleyball Cup was the third edition of the annual men's volleyball tournament, played by seven countries from June 2 to June 7, 2008, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The winner of each pool automatically advanced to the semi-finals and the teams placed in second and third met in crossed matches in the quarterfinals round. Men's Pan-American Volleyball Cup
The Men's Pan-American Volleyball Cup is a men's volleyball tournament organized by NORCECA. Initially, only NORCECA teams participated, but CSV teams have been invited since 2010. The event served as a qualifier for World League and the America's Cup. Now, the event serves as an America qualifier for the Pan American Games classification. The women have their own equivalent of the tournament, the Women's Pan-American Cup. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. Evan Patak
Evan Hoburg Patak (born June 23, 1984) is an American volleyball player who is a member of the United States men's national volleyball team. Playing career Youth and collegiate Patak grew up in Pleasanton, California and attended Foothill High School where he played for the school's volleyball team. He was named to the First Team All-East Bay Athletic League three times, earning the title of Most Valuable Player in his senior year. He also played club volleyball for Diablo Valley Volleyball Club. Following graduation, Patak enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara and played for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. After redshirting in 2003, he went on to play 4 seasons with the Gauchos and was named the 2004 AVCA Newcomer of the Year and a three-time All American. He also led the nation in kills in 2005. Elvis Contreras
Elvis Dalsires Contreras de los Santos (born 20 July 1979, in Tamayo), also known as Elvis Contreras, is a male volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who won the silver medal with the Dominican Republic men's national volleyball team at the 2006 Pan-American Cup in Mexicali, Mexico. Career Contreras won the Best Spiker award at the 2001 NORCECA Championship, and Best Scorer at the 2005 version. At the 2007 NORCECA Championship, Contreras was awarded Best Receiver, and his national team finished in 5th place. Contreras won the Dominican Republic "2007 Volleyball Player of the Year". Gavin Charles Schmitt (born 27 January 1986) is a former Canadian volleyball player, who started playing volleyball in Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Huskies volleyball club and eventually went on to win the silver medal with the Canada men's national volleyball team at the 2013 NORCECA Volleyball Championship in Langley, Canada. Career From 2009 to 2012, Schmitt played for the Daejeon Samsung Bluefangs in South Korea's V-League, where he led the team to three consecutive titles winning the MVP awards in the 2009–10 and 2011–12 seasons.
