The 2008 Men's European Water Polo Championship was the 28th edition of the bi-annual event, organised by the Europe's governing body in aquatics, the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The event took place in the Aquatic Centre Málaga in Málaga, Spain from July 4 to July 13, 2008. European Water Polo Championship
The European Water Polo Championship is a sport competition for national water polo teams, currently held biannually and organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing European aquatics federation. There are both men's and women's competitions. The first European Water Polo Championship was held in 1926 in Budapest, Hungary, with just a men's competition. The women for the first time competed in 1985 (Oslo, Norway) for the European title. The water polo tournament was part of the European Aquatics Championships up to and including 1997, and from 1999 the event was separated and got its own independent tournament. Aleksandar Šapić
Aleksandar Šapić ( sr-cyrl, Александар Шапић; born 1 June 1978) is a Serbian politician, and former professional water polo player serving as mayor of Belgrade since 20 June 2022. A member and current vice-president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Šapić had previously served as president of the New Belgrade municipality from 2012 to 2022. Šapić was previously a member of the Democratic Party (DS) until 2014, and he later led the Serbian Patriotic Alliance until the merger into SNS which occurred in May 2021. During his professional water polo career, he played for two Olympic bronze medal squads, one for FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, the other for Serbia at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and one Olympic silver medal squad for Serbia and Montenegro at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Denis Šefik ( sr-cyr, Денис Шефик; born 20 September 1976) is Serbian water polo player who plays for VK Radnički. He represented the Serbia and Montenegro national team until 2006, Serbian national team until 2008 and since 2010, represents the Montenegrin national team. National team career He was a member of the Serbia and Montenegro team at the 2004 Athens Olympics where they won the silver medal and the Serbian team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where they won bronze. Péter Biros
Péter Biros (born 5 April 1976) is a Hungarian former water polo player, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics, which makes him one of six male athletes who won three Olympic gold medals in water polo. ( Kiss Szecsi Molnar Kasas Benedek Biros) He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is nicknamed ''Fácán'', meaning 'pheasant', and made his debut for the national side in 1997, during an international tournament in Seville, Spain. After the 2008 Olympics final, Biros revealed that he performed the entire tournament with a cyst by his heart, something that was unknown to the entire team and coaches alike.
