2008 IIHF World U18 Championship Division I
The 2008 IIHF World U18 Championship Division I was an international under-18 ice hockey competition organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Both Division I tournaments made up the second level of the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships. The Group A tournament was played in Toruń, Poland, and the Group B tournament was played in Riga, Latvia, both from 2 to 8 April 2008. The Czech Republic and Norway won the Group A and B tournaments respectively and gained promotion to the Top Division of the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships. 2007 IIHF World U18 Championship Division I
The 2007 IIHF World U18 Championship Division I were a pair of international under-18 ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division I tournaments made up the second level of competition at the 2007 IIHF World U18 Championships. The Group A tournament took place between 6 April and 12 April 2007 in Maribor, Slovenia and the Group B tournament took place between 4 April and 10 April 2007 in Sanok, Poland. Belarus and Denmark won the Group A and Group B tournaments respectively and gained promotion to the Championship Division for the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships. While France finished last in Group A and Great Britain last in Group B and were both relegated to Division II for 2008. 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships were held in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota, United States. The championships ran from April 9 to April 19, 2009. Games were played at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo and the Moorhead Sports Center in Moorhead. Fargo-Moorhead defeated Providence, Rhode Island and St. Cloud, Minnesota for the rights to host the event. The United States, as the host country, won their third gold medal in five years, defeating Russia 5–0 in the final. Finland rounded out the podium with a 5–4 shootout win over Canada in the bronze medal game. IIHF World U18 Championship Division I
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey. The IIHF Hall of Fame was founded in 1997, and has been located within the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1998. Arena Riga
Arena Riga ( lv, Arēna Rīga) is an indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 and was opened on 15 February 2006. It was built to be used as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship, the other being Skonto Arena. The arena was designed by the Canadian company SCI Architects and Latvian firms SIA Merks and SIA Nams. History The 11,000-seat arena was constructed as a requirement for hosting the 2006 IIHF World Championship. Arena Toruń
Arena Toruń is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in Toruń, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. It is home to Twarde Pierniki Toruń of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). It was officially opened on 10 August 2014. History In 2010, the general project of the venue was presented by a consortium of DEDECO and MD Polska companies. Construction of the building commenced in 2011. It is located in Chełmińskie Przedmieście, the western part of the city. The total cost of the venue reached 158 million PLN. The building's dimensions are 162.25 meters (length), 97.10 meters (width) and 20 meters (height). Arena Toruń was opened on 10 August 2014. Since 2015, the venue has been hosting the Copernicus Cup, an IAAF World Indoor Tour meeting. The venue also hosted the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships from 4 to 7 March 2021.
