2008 Houston Cougars Football Team
The 2008 Houston Cougars football team, also known as the Houston Cougars, Houston, or UH, represented the University of Houston in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It was the 63rd year of season play for Houston. The team was coached by first-year head football coach, Kevin Sumlin whose previous position was as co-offensive coordinator for the Oklahoma Sooners. He replaced Art Briles. The team played its home games at Robertson Stadium, a 32,000-person capacity stadium on-campus in Houston. Competing against the Air Force Falcons in the 2008 Armed Forces Bowl, the Cougars won their first bowl game since 1980, and broke the longest current bowl game losing streak in Division I FBS football at that time. In addition, Houston defeated two nationally ranked opponents, which the Cougars hadn't achieved since their 1984 season. Kevin Sumlin
Kevin Warren Sumlin (born August 3, 1964) is an American football coach who is the head coach and general manager for the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League (USFL). Sumlin served as the head football coach at the University of Houston from 2008 to 2011, Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2017, and at the University of Arizona from 2018 to 2020. Early life Sumlin was born in Brewton, Alabama, on August 3, 1964. He later attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, where he played football, basketball, and ice hockey. Following his prep career, Sumlin attended Purdue University and was a starting linebacker throughout his entire college career. Chris Thurmond
David Christopher Thurmond (born February 25, 1953) is an American football coach. He is an offensive analyst at Oklahoma State University, a position he has held since 2017. Thurmond served as the interim head football coach at the University of Houston for the final game of the 2007 season, the 2007 Texas Bowl. Early life Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Thurmond grew up in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Thurmond was a quarterback on the Charles Page High School football team and graduated in 1971. Thurmond then earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Tulsa in 1975. 2007 Oklahoma Sooners Football Team
The 2007 Oklahoma Sooners football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the 113th season of Sooner football. The team was led by two-time Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award winner, Bob Stoops, in his ninth season as head coach. They played their homes games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. They were a charter member of the Big 12 Conference. The NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, is the highest level of college football in the United States. Marcus Dujuan McGraw (born October 5, 1989) is a former American football linebacker. During his college career at Houston, he was on the watch lists for the 2010 and 2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Lombardi Award. He was signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2012.
