2008 European Pairs Speedway Championship
The 2008 European Pairs Speedway Championship was the fifth edition of the European Pairs Speedway Championship. The final was held in Natschbach-Loipersbach, Austria on 20 September. Czech Republic speedway team, Czech Republic were the defending European champions but Poland won their third title. European Pairs Speedway Championship
The European Pairs Speedway Championship is an annual speedway event held in different countries organized by the European Motorcycle Union (UEM) since 2004. Previous winners Rules The minimum age limit (16 years) starts on the date of the rider's birthday. Team composition The 6 (or 7) competing teams shall each consist of 3 riders: 2 riders having programmed riders and the third rider being a substitute, as follows: The substitute rider may take the place of any programmed rider, at any time, within the maximum number of permitted heats (5 when is 6 pairs and 6 when is 7 pairs) as decided by the Team Manager. Filip Šitera
Filip Šitera (born 18 April 1988 in Mladá Boleslav, Czechoslovakia) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider. He represented Czech Republic at Under-21 level. Career Despite showing an interest to ride in the United Kingdom, and attracting the attention of several British clubs, Šitera ruled out riding in the UK from the start of 2008 due to racing and educational commitments but he signed for the Coventry Bees in July. He rides in Poland for Atlas Wrocław and signed a deal to ride in Sweden for Griparna in 2008. Šitera travelled to Australia in 2007 where he would win the Jack Young Solo Cup at the Gillman Speedway in Adelaide, becoming the first (and so far only) Czech rider to win the cup named in honour of Adelaide's 1951 and 1952 Speedway World Champion. Maks Gregorič (born 26 August 1985) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Slovenia. Career Gregorič was a member of Slovenian national team for who he earned seven international caps and represented them at four World Cups including the 2009 Speedway World Cup semi finals. He rode for the Kolejarz Rawicz in the Polish Second League and started racing in the British leagues during the 2009 Premier League speedway season, when riding for the Redcar Bears and also rode for them during the 2010 season. Izak Šantej (born August 26, 1973 in Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who rode in the Speedway Grand Prix series. Career Šantej medalled 12 times at the Slovenian Individual Speedway Championship. Matej Žagar (born 3 April 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who was won two Individual Speedway European Champion titles in 2004 and 2008. Career In 2002, he won the 2002 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and the following year made his debut in the Individual World Championship. He began his career in the United Kingdom with the Trelawny Tigers in 2003 before moving to the Reading Racers in 2004 when the Tigers closed. He became a permanent rider in the 2006 Speedway Grand Prix and 2007 Speedway Grand Prix seasons. In the UK he represented Reading, Swindon and Eastbourne before quitting the United Kingdom after an underwhelming 2010 campaign.
