2008 CECAFA Cup
The 2008 CECAFA Cup was the 32nd edition of the football tournament that involves teams from East and Central Africa. All matches were played from 31 December 2008 to 13 January 2009 at the National Stadium, Kampala, Uganda. The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations ( sw, Baraza la Mashirikisho ya Mpira wa Miguu Afrika Mashariki na Kati, french: Conseil des Associations de Football d'Afrique de l'Est et Centrale, ar, مؤتمر جمعيات شرق ووسط أفريقيا لكرة القدم; officially abbreviated as CECAFA) is an association of the football playing nations in mostly East Africa and a bit of Central Africa. An affiliate of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), CECAFA is the oldest sub-regional football organisation on the continent. History CECAFA was founded unofficially in 1927. The competition was sponsored by the major Nairobi-based soap-manufacturing firm Gossage, owned by the British Lever Brothers. Its formation is often misattributed to William Gossage, founder of the Gossage company. However, he died 50 years before the CECAFA was established. Francis Ouma (born March 23, 1988) is a Kenyan football player who plays for Sony Sugar in the Tusker Premier League as a striker. Career Ouma began his career with Mathare United, with whom he won the 2008 Kenyan Premier League and finished as top goalscorer, with 15 goals. He joined Parma after the end of the season. Rodgers Kola (born 4 July 1989) is a Zambian footballer who plays for Zanaco. He is a versatile forward who is usually deployed on the wing. Club career Kola was born in Lusaka. He signed for Russia's PFC Spartak Nalchik in July 2008 but could not link up with his teammates in Russia due to visa problems. Because of this, he returned to Zanaco in Zambia. Bugembe is a town in Jinja District in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is the seat of the Kingdom of Busoga, one of the four constitutional in Uganda, which is coterminous with the Busoga sub-region.
