2007–08 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics
The 2007–2008 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics was a multi race competition over a season of track cycling. The season began on 30 November 2007 and ended on 17 February 2008. The World Cup is organised by the UCI. The 2007–2008 series carried vital ranking points towards the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The following tables contain only Olympic events, although many non-Olympic events are still held. UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics
The UCI Track Cycling World Cup (formerly known as the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics) is a multi race tournament held over a track cycling season - usually between October and February. Each series is divided into several rounds, each held in a different country. Format The UCI Track Cycling World Cup is a key event within the Track Cycling calendar, with only the World Championships and the Olympic Games attracting more World Ranking points. The series is open to national teams and registered trade teams who compete over a number of track cycling disciplines. The overall classification is decided on a points system with riders or teams amassing points in each discipline competed during each round of the series. The rider or team that has the greatest number of points in each discipline wears a white jersey in that discipline in the following round to denote their status as leader. Zakkari Dempster (born 27 September 1987) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2006 and 2019 for the SouthAustralia.com–AIS, , , , and teams. Dempster now works as a directeur sportif for , the development team for UCI WorldTeam . He was selected for the 2014 Tour de France finishing the race in 151st position on the General Classification. Jack Bobridge
Jack Bobridge (born 13 July 1989) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2010 and 2016. In 2019 he was convicted of drug dealing and sentenced to a four-year prison term. He admitted to using banned recreational drugs during his racing career, noting that he used cocaine in training leading up to major cycling events, including the Olympics. Career Bobridge's career combined both track and road cycling. In 2008, he was part of the Australian men's pursuit team that finished in fourth place at the Olympics, along with Graeme Brown, Mark Jamieson, Luke Roberts and Brad McGee. In May 2009, Bobridge signed with , with his contract starting on 1 January 2010 and had been contracted to race with the team until 2012. Jesse Sergent (born 8 July 1988) is a retired New Zealand racing cyclist who rode professionally between 2011 and 2016 for , and . Career Born in Feilding, Sergent won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, as part of the New Zealand team in team pursuit, together with Sam Bewley, Hayden Roulston, Westley Gough and Marc Ryan. On 10 November 2008, it was announced that Sergent had signed with 's under-23 development team, for 2009 and 2010. Sergent became a stagiaire with for the last part of the 2010 season. He then signed a professional contract for 2011 with . He represented New-Zealand at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India. Marc Ryan (born 14 October 1982) is a New Zealand racing cyclist. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Ryan won the bronze medal as part of the New Zealand team in team pursuit, together with Sam Bewley, Hayden Roulston, and Jesse Sergent. At the 2009–2010 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics in Melbourne, Ryan and Thomas Scully won the Men's Madison in a time of 44 minutes, 33 seconds, at an average speed of 53.9 km per hour. Westley Gough
Westley Gough (born 4 May 1988, Hastings) is a New Zealand professional racing cyclist. In 2011 he won the New Zealand National Road Championships ITT. Gough was in the New Zealand team that beat Great Britain for gold in the team pursuit at the 2005 World Junior Championships in Austria. He gained a silver medal in the individual pursuit at the 2006 World Junior Championships, and he was part of the quartet that won the silver in the team pursuit behind Australia. He won a bronze medal in the men's team pursuit event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. Gough rode in the team's preliminary events, but made way for Hayden Roulston to join the team in the final. Sam Bewley
Samuel Ryan Bewley (born 22 July 1987) is an amateur podcast host and former racing cyclist from New Zealand who last rode for UCI WorldTeam . Bewley has also competed for UCI ProTeam and BikeNZ PureBlack Racing. He has raced in nine Grand Tours, including five starts at the Vuelta a España and three starts at the Giro d'Italia. He made his sole Tour de France appearance to date in its 2020 edition. On 1 August 2022 he announced that he will retire as a professional cyclist at the end of 2022. Sir Bradley Marc Wiggins, CBE (born 28 April 1980) is a British former professional road and track racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2016. Christopher Malcolm Newton (born 29 September 1973, Middlesbrough, England) is a road and track racing cyclist. Newton is a multiple world champion and triple Olympic medalist. Biography Newton went to Linthorpe Juniors and Boynton Comprehensive in Teesside, and, aged 13, started cycling with Teesside Clarion. He is an alumnus of the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough. Newton first competed in the Commonwealth Games in 1994, winning the silver medal in the Team Pursuit with Tony Doyle, Rob Hayles and Bryan Steel.
