New Zealand Football Championship
The New Zealand Football Championship ( mi, Te Whakataetae Whutupaoro a Aotearoa) was a men's association football league at the top of the New Zealand league system. Founded in 2004, the New Zealand Football Championship was the successor to a myriad of short-lived football leagues in the country, including the National Soccer League, the National Summer Soccer League and the New Zealand Superclub League. The league was contested by ten teams in a franchise system. For sponsorship reasons, the competition was known as the ISPS Handa Men's Premiership. From the 2021-22 season, it was replaced by the New Zealand National League. The seasons used to run from October through to April, and consist of an eighteen-round regular season followed by a playoff series involving the four highest-placed teams, culminating in a Grand Final. Daniel Ellensohn
Daniel Ellensohn (born 9 August 1985 in Cape Town) is an association football striker from New Zealand who currently plays for Samoa based League side Kiwi FC. He has also been known to DJ, with popular London clubs Gigalum and Ministry of Sound hosting him. Club career His previous teams include Team Wellington and Waitakere United. Ellensohn holds dual citizenship with Austria and New Zealand. The South African-born striker played from 2004 to 2008 in the New Zealand Football Championship, initially for three seasons at Waitakere United, with whom he twice reached the 2005 and 2007 Grand Final, but lost both went to Auckland City. Grant Young (footballer)
Grant Young (born 3 March 1971 in Cape Town) is a football (soccer) player who represented South Africa at international level and participated in two FIFA Club World Cups. Career Born in South Africa, Young spent much of his career with local club Hellenic before a stint with Ghent in Belgium. He emigrated to New Zealand in 2004 where he played first for East Coast Bays, before joining Central United and subsequently Auckland City FC. FMG Stadium Waikato is a major sporting and cultural events venue in Hamilton, New Zealand, with a total capacity of 25,800. Four areas contribute to this capacity: The Brian Perry Stand holding 12,000, the WEL Networks Stand holding 8,000, the Goal Line Terrace holding 800 and the Greenzone can hold up to 5,000 people. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Procedure The ball is placed on the penalty mark, regardless of where in the penalty area the foul occurred. The player taking the kick must be identified to the referee.
