2007–08 Lebanese Premier League
The Lebanese Premier League 2007/08 season is the 47th season in the Lebanese Premier League. The Championship was decided on the final matchday, when Al-Ansar and Nejmeh tied each other 1–1 while Al Ahed defeated Tadamon Sour 2–1 to win its first championship title. Striker Mohammed Ghaddar from Nejmeh won the top scorer award, having found the net 22 times. Due to the 2008 unrest in Lebanon, the games where postponed for one month. Thus the league finished in June 2008 instead of May 2008 as scheduled. The Lebanese First Division ( ar, الدوري اللبناني الدرجة الأولى), commonly known as the Lebanese Premier League (), is the top division of the Lebanese football league system. There are 12 teams competing in the league, which operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Lebanese Second Division. The league's first season began in May 1934, with Nahda winning the first title. The most successful club in the league is Ansar, with 14 league titles; they set a Guinness World Record by winning 11 consecutive league titles between 1988 and 1999. Seasons run from September to June with each team playing 21 games per season. Most games are played on weekend afternoons. Racing Club (), known as Racing Beirut or simply Racing, is a football club based in Achrafieh, a district in Beirut, Lebanon, that competes in the . Fadi Mohammed Ghosson ( ar, فادي محمد غصن; born 15 May 1979) is a Lebanese former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Ghosson joined Ansar on 7 April 1999, coming from Olympic Dmit. After having moved to Australia in 2004, he returned to Ansar in 2005. Abbas Ahmed Atwi
Abbas Ahmad Atwi ( ar, عباس أحمد عطوي; born 12 September 1979) is a Lebanese former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Making his debut for Lebanon in 2002, Atwi was the all-time most capped player for his country with over 80 international caps, before being surpassed by Hassan Maatouk in 2020; he played for the national team for over 13 years, until his final match in 2016. Club career Atwi grew up in the Zuqaq al-Blat quarter of Beirut; he began playing football in the streets aged six. Errol McFarlane Jr. (born October 12, 1977) is a Trinidadian former footballer who played as a forward. Club career Youth and College Born in Port of Spain, McFarlane attended Trinity College in his native Trinidad, and briefly attended Malick Secondary Comprehensive, before moving to the United States in 1995 to attend Nassau Community College. Salih Sadir Salih Al-Sadoun ( ar, صالح سدير صالح السعدون; born 21 August 1981) is an Iraqi former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Previously, Sadir played with Rah Ahan and Paykan in the Persian Gulf Pro League. He also played for the Iraq national football team between 2002 and 2011. 2008–09 Lebanese Second Division
The 2008–09 Lebanese Second Division was the 75th season of the second-highest level of Soccer in Lebanon. This season once again featured 14 Clubs just like the season before. Overview In the 2007–08 Premier League, both Al-Irshad(finished 11th) and Al-Ahli Sidon (finished last) were relegated. They joined the Second Division along with Al-Riyadah and Al-Khoyol who were promoted to the Second Division from the Third Division in the 2007–08 season. Unlike the previous 3 seasons, no clubs pulled out before the season even started, a bonus for the league. Lebanese Second Division
The Lebanese Second Division ( ar, الدوري اللبناني الدرجة الثانية) is the second division of Lebanese football. Established in 1933, it is controlled by the Lebanese Football Association. The 12 teams that participate in the league play each other twice, once at home and once away, with the champions and the second placed team qualifying to the Lebanese Premier League to replace the bottom two teams.
