2007–08 IRB Sevens World Series
The 2007–08 IRB Sevens World Series was the ninth of an annual IRB Sevens World Series of rugby sevens tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. The defending series champions, New Zealand, dominated this season's competition, winning the first five events, setting new records for consecutive tournament wins and consecutive match wins, and clinching the 2007–08 series with one tournament remaining after winning the Plate Final of the London leg. They ended with six wins out of the eight events. Sevens is traditionally played in a two-day tournament format; however, the most famous event, the Hong Kong Sevens, is played over three days. Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union
The Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union (AGRFU) was the governing body for rugby union that represented the Gulf Cooperation Council states until the end of 2010. As well as organising local and regional competitions in UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman, the AGRFU administered representative Arabian Gulf rugby teams and hosted the annual Dubai round of the Sevens World Series and 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai. History Rugby in the Arabian Peninsula was first played in the 1940s by the British military and expatriate oil workers in Kuwait. By 1974, rugby clubs had also been established in UAE (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah), Saudi Arabia (Dhahran), Qatar (Doha), and Bahrain. Petco Park
Petco Park is a baseball stadium in Downtown San Diego, California. It is the home ballpark of Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres, and has also been used as a venue for concerts, soccer, golf, and rugby. The ballpark is located between Seventh and 10th Avenues south of J Street. The park opened in 2004, replacing Qualcomm Stadium as the home stadium of the Padres. The southern side of the stadium is bounded by San Diego Trolley light rail tracks along the north side of Harbor Drive, which serve the adjacent San Diego Convention Center. Junior Tomasi Cama
Tomasi Cama (born 11 November 1980) is a New Zealand former rugby union player. He played for Manawatu Rugby Union, Manawatu in the Air New Zealand Cup, and the New Zealand Sevens team. Cama won the 2012 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Award. He is the son of former Fiji national rugby sevens team, Fiji sevens player Tomasi Cama. Playing career Cama started out in the Manawatu Colts in 2001 having a strong season and earning a spot in the Manawatu Development Squad in 2002. He played for the Manawatu Development Squad again in 2003. 2004 saw a change of colours when he wore the Wanganui colours in the NPC. After one season with Wanganui he went back to play for Manawatu. In 2006 Cama focused on his Air New Zealand Cup season for Manawatu and had a strong season. Arabian Gulf Rugby Union Team
The Arabian Gulf rugby union team was a combined team of players that represented the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council in international rugby union competitions. The team competed in international matches between 1993 and 2010, and was governed by the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union (AGRFU). Associate members were Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. The Arabian Gulf participated in the highest tier of the inaugural 2008 Asian Five Nations alongside Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan. After losing all four of their matches and subsequently finishing last, the team was relegated to Division One for the 2009 tournament. 2008 Edinburgh Sevens
The 2008 Edinburgh Sevens was the second edition of a rugby sevens (seven-a-side version of rugby union) tournament which forms part of the IRB Sevens World Series, an annual series of events for national representative teams in sevens. It took place on 31 May and 1 June at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was the eighth and final Cup trophy in the 2007–08 IRB Sevens World Series. New Zealand, which had already clinched the overall series title, put an exclamation point on their dominant season by winning the Cup competition, beating England in the final. 2008 London Sevens
The London Sevens is played annually as part of the IRB Sevens World Series for international rugby sevens (seven-a-side version of rugby union). The 2008 competition took place 24 May and 25 May at Twickenham in London, England and was the seventh Cup trophy in the 2007-08 IRB Sevens World Series. Samoa won their first Cup of the season, defeating Fiji in the final 19-14. In a shock Plate final, New Zealand defeated South Africa 19-12. However, this result was enough to ensure that New Zealand won the overall 2007-08 Series with a round to spare. New Zealand had earlier lost to the hosts England in the Cup quarter-finals, whilst South Africa failed to score against Argentina at the same stage in the tournament. 2008 Adelaide Sevens
The 2008 Adelaide Sevens, promoted as the International Rugby Sevens Adelaide 2008, was a rugby sevens tournament that was part of the IRB Sevens World Series in the 2007–08 season. It was the Australian Sevens leg of the series, held on the weekend of 5 and 6 April at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia. South Africa halted New Zealand's winning streak, defeating them 15–7 in the Cup final. The Cook Islands provided the biggest upset of the competition by finishing 2nd in their group, thus qualifying to the Cup competition; they would parachute into the Plate competition after a 48–0 drubbing by Samoa in the Cup quarterfinals.
