2007–08 Hereford United F.C. Season
The 2007–08 season was Hereford United's 27th season in the Football League and ended in the club winning promotion to League One, the third tier of English football, for the first time in 30 years. It was Hereford's second season back in the Football League after nine seasons spent in the Conference. The previous season had seen Hereford finish 16th after a poor run of form in the final stages of the season. On the strength of this they were predicted to battle against relegation this season by most media sources. Only one member of the 2007-08 squad was purchased for a transfer fee, Ben Smith who was signed from Weymouth for £20,000 in January 2007. On 26 April 2008 they secured 3rd place and promotion to League One. Hereford United F
Hereford () is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately east of the border with Wales, south-west of Worcester and north-west of Gloucester. With a population of 53,112 in 2021 it is by far the largest settlement in Herefordshire. An early town charter from 1189, granted by Richard I of England, describes it as "Hereford in Wales". Hereford has been recognised as a city since time immemorial, with the status being reconfirmed as recently as October 2000. It is now known chiefly as a trading centre for a wider agricultural and rural area. Benjamin Peter "Ben" Smith (born 23 November 1978) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Chelmsford, Smith began his career at Arsenal where he signed his first professional contract for the 1995–96 season. He never made a first team appearance at the London-based club, although he made 29 appearances and scored four goals for the youth team during that season. He moved to Reading in 1996 and made his senior debut on the final day of the 1996–97 season, coming on as a substitute in a 3–2 away defeat at Manchester City. This turned out to be his only first team appearance for the Royals and he moved to Yeovil Town in March 1998. Despite being transfer listed in his second season, remained with the club until 2001. Trevor Benjamin
Trevor Junior Benjamin (born 8 February 1979) is a former professional footballer and manager who played as a forward. He is famed for being a prime example of a journeyman footballer, having represented 29 teams in his career, and making over 350 appearances in the Football League between 1995 and 2008. He also holds the record for the most league clubs played for, which is 16. He most notably spent time in the Premier League with Leicester City, who he joined in 2000 from Cambridge United. Clint Easton
Clint Jude Easton (born 1 October 1977 in Barking) is an English professional footballer who is unattached. Career Club career Easton started his career at Watford; making nearly 80 appearances in seven years at the club and helping them reach the Premier League in the 1999–2000 season. Easton scored twice for Watford; once in the league against York City and once in the League Cup against Wigan Athletic. During this time he represented England at under-20 level twice during the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship. He moved to Norwich City in June 2001 for a fee that had the potential of being £100,000. Kris Taylor
Kris Taylor (born 12 January 1984) is an English football manager and former professional player who is a player-coach at club Chasetown. Primarily as a left-sided midfielder, he never made the first team at Manchester United and instead went on to spend over three seasons at Walsall after signing in February 2003. He spent two seasons at Hereford United from 2007 to 2009, before moving on to Port Vale for another two season spell. Following this he signed with non-league Darlington in June 2011, before his contract was terminated in January 2012. Jack Macleod
Jack Ross Macleod (born 3 July 1988) is an English footballer who plays for Leatherhead of the Isthmian League Premier Division. After training in France throughout the 2020/21 season with his dog Penny, Macleod is said to be actively looking for a new club for the upcoming 2021/22 season and there is interest from a few clubs in the UK. Karl Matthew Broadhurst (born 18 March 1980) is an English retired footballer who played as a central defender. Biography Broadhurst was born in Portsmouth and joined AFC Bournemouth at the age of 12. He progressed through the youth system and made his first team debut in the League Cup against Charlton Athletic in the 1999-00 season where he won man of the match. John McCombe
John Paul McCombe (born 7 May 1985) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre back. He made 473 league and cup appearances in a 19 year professional and semi-professional career, scoring 29 goals. His brother, Jamie, also played professional football. McCombe graduated through the Huddersfield Town Academy to make his first-team debut in May 2003. Unused in 2003–04, he also rarely featured in 2004–05, 2005–06, and 2006–07. Richard Rose (footballer)
Richard Alan Rose (born 8 September 1982) is an English professional footballer who plays for Hastings United. Rose plays as a defender and has been noted for his versatility having played in both the full back and centre back positions, and occasionally in central midfield. Playing career Rose was born in Tonbridge, Kent and joined Gillingham as a youth player. Whilst still a trainee he made his professional debut as a 14th minute substitute in Gillingham's 2–1 defeat at Crewe Alexandra on 16 April 2001.
