2007 National Road Cycling Championships
The 2007 national road cycling championships took place throughout the year, with the majority taking place in late June and early July, although there are some exceptions. The National Championships are an annual event and have taken place for many years. Jerseys The winner of each national championship wears the national jersey in all their races for the next year in the respective discipline, apart from the World Championships. The jerseys tend to represent the countries' flag or use the colours from it. Cancellations The British championships were cancelled following torrential rain in the week leading up to the event, causing flooding nearby where the races were to be held. It was rescheduled after the Tour de France. Stijn Devolder
Stijn Devolder (born 29 August 1979) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer, who competed professionally for (2002–2003), (2004–2007), (2008–2010), (2011–2012), (2013–2016), (2017–2018) and (2019). Career Born in Kortrijk, West Flanders, Devolder won his first professional race at the 2004 Four Days of Dunkirk, winning stage 4. His most prestigious victories are the 2007, 2010 and 2013 Belgian National Road Race Championships, the 2008 and 2009 Tour of Flanders, and the 2008 and 2010 Tour of Belgium. Devolder is a competent climber and proficient in an individual time trial but his main strength lies in the cobbled classics. Devolder led the squad in the 2008 Tour de France but fell off the back and almost immediately stepped off his bike on the Ascent of the Col Agnel. Branislau Samoilau ( be, Браніслаў Самойлаў; born 25 May 1985) is a Belarusian road bicycle racer, who rides for Belarusian amateur team . Career Born in Vitebsk, Samoilau competed professionally for between 2007 and 2008, a brief stint for in 2009, for in 2009 and 2010, the in 2011 and 2012 and between 2014 and 2017. Samoilau won the Belarusian National Road Race Championships in 2007. He was national time trial champion of Belarus in 2009, 2010 and 2012. Samoilau did not compete in the professional peloton in 2013, but joined for the 2014 season. During the 2015 Tour of Austria, Samoilau was fined a month's salary by his team for having said "fucking nigger" to Natnael Berhane, a black rider from Eritrea. Leif Hoste (born 17 July 1977) is a retired Belgian professional road racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI Professional Continental Team team . Born in Kortrijk, Hoste's career highlights included winning two stages and the overall title at the 2006 Three Days of De Panne, the 2001, 2006 and 2007 Belgian national time trial championships, and a second-place finish at the 2004, 2006 and 2007 one-day classic Tour of Flanders. At the 2006 Paris–Roubaix, after finishing second, Hoste was disqualified by the race jury for illegally riding through a closed level crossing along with Peter Van Petegem and Vladimir Gusev (who were also disqualified). On 29 March 2013, the Belgian cycling federation began a doping case against Hoste. On 13 July 2014 it was confirmed by the UCI that Hoste had been banned for two years until 29 December 2015 for biological passport irregularities.
