The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. The reigning 100 m Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world". Fred Kerley and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the reigning world champions; Marcell Jacobs and Elaine Thompson-Herah are the men's and women's Olympic champions. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. Nataliya Olehivna Pohrebniak ( uk, Наталія Олегівна Погребняк, born 19 February 1988) is a Russian- Ukrainian sprint athlete who specializes in the 100 metres. Pohrebniak (with Yelizaveta Bryzhina, Mariya Ryemyen and Olesya Povh) was part of the Ukrainian women's 4 × 100 m that won gold during the 2010 European Athletics with 42.29 – the fastest time in the world that year. She changed her allegiance to Russia after 2016 and began competing in Russian national competitions in 2019. Biography Pohrebnyak was born in the Kharkiv Oblast, and represents the club Dynamo Kharkiv. In the 100 metres she finished fourth at the 2007 European Junior Championships, and won the silver medal at the 2009 European U23 Championships. In the 200 metres she finished seventh at the 2009 European U23 Championships. Tezzhan Naimova
Tezdzhan Naimova ( bg, Тезджан Наимова; first name also rendered as Тезжан, ''Tezzhan'' or Tezcan, born 1 May 1987) is a Bulgarian sprinter of Turkish descent. She specializes in both the 60, 100 and 200 metres. Junior career Born in Parvomay of Turkish ethnicity, Naimova took up athletics at the age of 10 and was initially trained by Tanyo Tanev, but changed to former triple jumper Stoyko Tsonov, who has been her coach since seventh grade. She competed in the 200 metres at the 2004 World Junior Championships, but was knocked out in the semi-final. In 2005, she became the Bulgarian national champion in the 100 and 200 metres (with Ivet Lalova absent). She also won a Balkan 60 metres title in the indoors in 2006. She competed at the World Indoor Championships, but was again knocked out in the semi-final. Sally McLellan
Sally Pearson, OAM (née McLellan; born 19 September 1986) is an Australian former athlete. She is the 2011 and 2017 World champion and 2012 Olympic champion in the 100 metres hurdles. She also won a silver medal in the 100 m hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2013 World Championships. Athletic career Sally Pearson was born in Sydney and moved to Birdsville, Queensland when she was eight years old, before eventually settling on the Gold Coast. It was there, while she was still in primary school, that her athletic talents were noticed by Sharon Hannan, who coached her until 2013. Pearson rose to prominence in 2001, when at the age of only 14, she won the Australian Youth 100 m and 90 m hurdles titles. |
