2007 Rugby World Cup Warm-up Matches
Throughout August 2007, various teams prepared for the Rugby World Cup in France with a short series of test matches, primarily in the Northern Hemisphere and involving the RBS Six Nations sides. In addition, South Africa played one test in Scotland following the 2007 Tri Nations and Argentina one test in their home country and one in Wales. The tests were effectively a replacement for the usual Autumn international series in November which does not take place in World Cup years. 2007 Rugby World Cup
The 2007 Rugby World Cup was the sixth Rugby World Cup, a quadrennial international rugby union competition inaugurated in 1987. Twenty nations competed for the Webb Ellis Cup in the tournament, which was hosted by France from 7 September to 20 October. France won the hosting rights in 2003, beating a bid from England. The competition consisted of 48 matches over 44 days; 42 matches were played in ten cities throughout France, as well as four in Cardiff, Wales, and two in Edinburgh, Scotland. The eight quarter-finalists from 2003 were granted automatic qualification, while 12 other nations gained entry through the regional qualifying competitions that began in 2004 – of them, Portugal was the only World Cup debutant. The top three nations from each pool at the end of the pool stage qualified automatically for the 2011 World Cup. Nick Easter
Nicholas James Easter (born 15 August 1978) is an English rugby union coach and former player. He played as a Number 8 for Orrell, Harlequins and the England national team. He began his career in 2001, playing for Orrell, before moving to Harlequins three years later. He began playing for the England national team in 2007, playing in the 2007, 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups, as well as the annual Six Nations Championships. Aged 38, he retired in 2016. Early life Easter is the brother of Sale Sharks player Mark Easter and the nephew of author Anne Easter Smith. Gonzalo Longo
Gonzalo Matías Longo Elía (born 14 March 1974 in Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentine rugby union footballer. His position was number eight. He played for San Isidro Club, from 1992/93 to 2000/01. He won the Nacional de Clubes in 1992/93 and 1993/94. He moved to RC Narbonne, in France, in 2001/02, where he became a professional and would play until 2003/04. He then would play for ASM Clermont Auvergne, from 2004/05 to 2006/07, where he won the European Challenge Cup in 2007. He returned to San Isidro Club, where he was player-coach for the final season of his playing career in 2007/08. He won a third title of the Nacional de Clubes in his last season. Joël Jutge
Joël Jutge (born 5 April 1966 in Lavaur, Tarn) is a former French international rugby union referee. He made his international refereeing debut in a 2000 match between Italy and Romania in Naples. Jutge decided to be a referee in 1991 after his playing career was brought to an end by a knee ligament injury. He played for French club US Colomiers as a scrum-half, and later moved to Cahors before becoming a referee. He is now a referee manager. He controlled many notable matches, and officiated his first Six Nations Championship match in 2002, between Wales and Scotland in Cardiff and subsequently the Heineken Cup final between Leicester Tigers and Munster. Mathew James Murray Tait (born 6 February 1986) is a retired English rugby union player who gained 38 caps for between 2005–2010, including starting in the 2007 Rugby World Cup Final; and played 279 club games for Newcastle Falcons, Sale Sharks and Leicester Tigers between 2004 and 2018. He was considered a utility back regularly playing at centre, fullback or wing. Tait made his Newcastle debut in 2004 and made his England debut at 18 years old in 2005, at the time the second youngest England player selected since the second World War. Jason Thorpe Robinson OBE (born 30 July 1974) is an English former dual-code international rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s.
