2007 Renfrewshire Council Election
Elections to Renfrewshire Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament general election. The election was the first one using 11 new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward will elect three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The new wards replace 40 single-member wards which used the plurality (first past the post) system of election. Renfrewshire Council
Renfrewshire () ( sco, Renfrewshire; gd, Siorrachd Rinn Friù) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland. Located in the west central Lowlands, it is one of three council areas contained within the boundaries of the historic county of Renfrewshire, the others being East Renfrewshire to the east and Inverclyde to the west. It also shares borders with Glasgow, North Ayrshire and West Dunbartonshire, and lies on the southern bank of the River Clyde. The term Renfrewshire may also be used to refer to the historic county, also known as the County of Renfrew or Greater Renfrewshire, with origins in the 16th century. The larger Renfrewshire, containing Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire, remains in use as a registration county and lieutenancy area as well as a joint valuation board area for electoral registration and local tax valuation purposes. Neil Bibby
Neil James Bibby (born 6 September 1983) is a Scottish Labour co-operative politician who has served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the West Scotland region since 2011. Early life and career Born in Paisley, Bibby grew up in Renfrewshire and went to the University of Glasgow. He had been Chair of Young Labour UK and Chair of Scottish Labour Students. In 2007 he was elected to Renfrewshire Council in the Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch ward. Before becoming elected to the Scottish Parliament he worked for Jim Murphy MP and Ken Macintosh MSP. Member of the Scottish Parliament Bibby was elected to the Scottish Parliament at the 2011 election to represent the West Scotland region, as the Labour Party returned three members from its regional list. Bruce McFee
Bruce James McFee (18 May 1961 – 9 September 2021) was a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He was elected as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the West of Scotland region at the 2003 election. McFee served on the Scottish Parliament's Procedures and Justice 1 Committees. He was involved in local campaigns to save Ferguson's shipyard in Port Glasgow and to retain the name of the University of Paisley. He had previously served as leader of the SNP group on Renfrewshire Council and was re-elected to the council in 2007, representing the Johnstone North, Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch ward. He did not seek re-election to the Scottish Parliament in 2007 and retired from local government at the 2012 Scottish local elections. McFee suffered a stroke in March 2019, which saw him enter full-time care thereafter. George Adam
George James Adam (born 8 June 1969) is a Scottish politician who has served as the Minister for Parliamentary Business since 2021. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), he has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Paisley since 2011. Adam ran unsuccessfully as the SNP's candidate for Paisley North in the 2003 Scottish Parliament election. In 2007, he was elected to the Renfrewshire Council, representing the Paisley South ward until 2012. Adam ran for the newly drawn Paisley constituency in the 2011 election and this time was elected to the Scottish Parliament. He was re-elected in the 2016 and 2021 election, serving three terms.
